Car audio help - Is Crutchfield still the go to for sizing car speakers?

I bought a car a few months ago and while I love the car the speakers are just terrible. I don't really care about having some crazy hi-fi system but this is much worse than factory in most newer cars.
I tried configuring on crutchfield and they seem to think I have some 8" subs under the front seats
Definitely not
Is there a better car audio alternative site that I should look into?

Crutchfield is hard to beat. Their support is just levels above all else.

Looks like the subs were for a custom build out
I think I'm just going to replace the 4 shitty speakers and put a small powered sub in the trunk
I don't know much about car audio. My last couple of vehicles had pretty solid factory systems so never messed with it.
Looks like I can upgrade everything pretty easily since there are only 4 speakers in the car. These focal speakers are expensive!

Crutchfield is just too easy. They give you any wiring adapters you need as well as complete instructions on how to remove trim panels.

I'm also lazy. I might get a quote at a professional installer and see what the difference will be

Just replacing the speakers probably won’t give you much improvement since factory head units don’t typically push much power. You may want to consider adding an amp also.

I bought it used and the previous owner put in an aftermarket Pioneer head unit
Just looked it up and it says it has a built in amp: MOSFET 50 W x 4
I'd think that would be enough to push 4-5" 2 way speakers. I think that and a small powered sub would be a huge upgrade over the garbage that's in there now.

Reasonable assumption given how shitty the speakers are
I'll file this as a pet project for later. Can't really justify it at the moment.
I might be pleased with just the 4 new speakers and pass on the sub. It's comical how bad these things are

Unless things have changed dramatically, they still don't really push that much to the speakers. You have to look at the average or something like that. Point being, they'll sound a lot better with an amp, even if it says the unit will push them.

Don't doubt you. I don't really plan on listening at a really high volume though. These speakers are just THAT bad. At 50% volume they're sounding like they're about to blow out.

50x4 is max power.
22rms is the normal for a standalone head unit.
Get a cheap 4 channel amp and make sure each speaker has at least 50 RMS to have actual power improvement

Good to know. It's odd that the speakers always give the continuous RMS power in the specs but a lot of head units don't.
Looks like the additional cost of a 4 channel amp isn't that much compared to what I may spend eventually anyway.

Replace your 4 door speakers with a good reputable brand. Your mids and highs will be just fine. If you’re like me, and want some bass but not, I’m 17 again bass, get an 8” suitcase subwoofer. It’s small, compact, fits under a seat and has a built in amp. You’ll be blown away at how good it sounds and you can adjust the level accordingly. I got the Rockville SS8P 400w 8".
If you can’t measure your factory speakers for some reason, plug your car into amazon, search for speakers and let amazon tell you if it will fit or not.

The speakers should be the first thing you upgrade in any system. A good set of door speakers can make a stock stereo sound good.

Polk's MM speaker series is a pretty good compromise between performance and cost, imo.
