Does anyone have experience with going from your standard DTV satellite plan to DTV Now, and did DTV charge a cancellation for switching to another service that they own?

I do not, but DTV is dumb as shite because I went from their satellite to DTV Now and I get something in the mail multiple times a week trying to "get me back". It's like they operate as completely separate companies.

Edit to say I did make that switch, but I don't recall there being a cancellation fee. That was over a year ago though so I could be forgetting.

unless you are under some sort of contract with them because of a discount, then you shouldnt have anything

I had a two year contract with them. I broke it at 15 months when all the streaming options popped up.

They called and threatened to ding my credit once or twice, but never did. Now they send me marketing material to try and get me back.

Yeah I don't understand DTV's business model either. I switched from DTV to DTV Now and the customer service rep gave me a significant monthly discount for making the switch with no expiration date and no contract. I'm hardly paying shite for my DTV Now service and I still get the mailers and phone calls from DTV to return to the satellite service. they sure like to compete with themselves.

When I broke contract from DTV to go to Now I was told that Now wasn’t a valid reason to break contract. It’s obvious they don’t make as much money from us from that.

That being said watch those frickers. They told me I was squared away with my account then a few months later I was hit with a ding on my credit for $52 unpaid. I simply disputed it with Credit Karma and it was removed shortly after.

does Direct tv now have a dvr? I looked and could find it on the site, or how many streams you are allowed at 1 time.

I have to laugh (not at the OP) at the media providers. I think on their employment application there must be a check box that asks if you are a dumbshit. If you check it you are hired immediately!

Same thing happened to me. Sent the box back same day I cancelled and they tried to bill me 150 a month later. Said it takes 3 to 4 weeks for the warehouse to process returns. I said fine I'll just claim it was a fraudulent charge. They ended up taking the charge off.

Yep I had a 350.00 charge on my checking account. I sent back the box they asked me to then turned around and said it was the wrong box. Then they said they didn't want the box but wanted the 350.00...It was all crazy..I finally threaten to sue them..After that it was taken care of. Just very stupid people.

I stoped using them years ago to switch. They did the same thing. Sent my boxes back to me then charged about $1200 to my debit card for the boxes that they sent back to me. Then after fighting. They said it would take 8-12 weeks to refund money. I called my bank.

I tried and they told me no. I just did a free trial of Hulu TV and liked it. I called Directv and told them I need to cancel because I’m moving to an apartment complex that doesn’t allow satellite dishes. I was able to cancel at no extra charge.
