Can you think of any way a PDF could become password protected on it's own?

So my son sent me a fillable PDF the other day via slack. I looked at it on slack and read his edits and moved on to other things.

Yesterday I went to pull it up again and slack viewer won't show the PDF. So I downloaded it from slack and the PDF viewer I use (Foxit PDF Reader) says it needs a password to open it.

Now his version on his device says it needs a password too.

He never put a password on it. He *did* send it to trash and the retrieve it from trash to try to view it again when I could not get to it.

Anything that might make a PDF think it's password protected? File corruption or something?

Any possible way slack added password protection to it? Some type of security within slack settings? Try emailing one without password to test?

Your son is trolling you. He is reading this thread right now and laughing.

Lol, I wish. It’s a dock that neither one of us wants to have to re-create

That’s what I was wondering, but Google searches get inundated with just plain old regular PDF password info.

Try an alternative viewer/editor? Okular has always seemed to work for me when others screw up the formatting and such. There is a Windoze port available (assumptions being made here).

Tried Okular - same thing, asks for a password.

This is the wierdest thing ever.

Sounds like you are only left with trying pdf password crackers....I've tried many over the years with near zero success with anything COTS, but it's probably been 10 years since I tried last....could they have gotten better?

Could always try that building complex in the middle of the Utah desert.. they have copies of all of your previous versions of the doc.
