Anyone have any recommendations on a camera that can be accessed over the Internet through an android app or browser? This would be an indoor camera if that helps

Yes, I just always associated a Webcam with something attached to a computer. This looks like it will work, thanks

Internet connected cams can be easily hacked, so don't put anything in its view that you wouldn't want someone on the internet to see.

Dropcam is supposed to be one of the best on the market but kind of pricey at $199

Incorrect. They are no more or less hackable than anything else.
The problem is Foscam for years shipped cameras with a default password and did not require the user to change it. As a result we had years of youtube gold as people would take control of camera and use the built in mic and speaker to drive the camera owner insane.

Care to expound on this? I was thinking of getting one to use as a baby monitor.

1. a $65 foscam will work with any webcam software (including their free app) has a fully fleshed out API if you care to utlize it, remotely control pans, tilts, automatic infrared for night vision, HD, can set zones of movement to snap a sequence of photos and email them to you or record to a "dvr" (aka hard drive) local or on the cloud.
you can also control it from any random webbrowser in the world just by knowing your URL.
it works with android wear (yeah i know..thats just me) but its cool to glance down at your watch in a meeting and see your son playing in his crib

you can set up individual login roles (admin, user and guest) to limit what people can do when you provide them access.
it also has a built-in microphone and speaker so you can torture your spouse remotely when she's rocking the baby and in addition to WiFi it supports PoE so you don't even need a separate power cable for it if you choose to just run a PoE cable.
Price: $65
2. a dropcam is $200, doesn't do half of what the foscam does, charges you a MONTHLY SUBSCRIPTION FEE and is a closed architecture whose only redeeming feature is..it works with wink.
whoop de doo. wink isnt the app for controlling a webcam as its a jack-of-all=trades and master of none. a dedicated webcam app like the foscame or blue iris will do what you need and more.
eta i have a foscam i'm using for my baby monitor.

Foscam is a good option as Cad mentioned. I have several d-link cameras in and outside my house b/c they work easily with my synology. d-link is easy to setup and use like the foscam or you can use the d-link cloud which is easy enough for anyone to setup.

2 problems with foscam
1. if the camera is too far from the router for a solid signal it will be a complete shite show. timeouts, inability to connect, camera not working when you need it to, etc. the most seamless solution is to hardwire with a PoE cable (then you're done and its rock solid), a regular ethernet (but then you have to run the power cable to an outlet somewhere which isnt always convienet) or WiFi and run a power cable.
the PoE is the best solution IF YOU HAVE A SWITCH that supports is.
2. setup is a pain in the arse initially. i need to post an official 'foscam' thread on here but you can read some of my comments in this thread:

I have one to keep an eye on my dog while at work and it isn't that good.

To be fair, the fee is only charged if you want the cloud dvr feature. Otherwise, no fee.

wow, you want to go there?
what if you want to record video to your local hard drive to avoid the fees and the fact nest has all your personal video on their servers?

Dropcam is designed to work only with Dropcam servers in order to provide a secure system where video can be accessed from anytime, anywhere. We decided to not store video locally for a few reasons.

ETA in other words, the camera is fricking useless if you actually want to view recordings without paying them MINIMUM another $100 a year (for the "poor folks" plan)

Then it's not the camera for you, obviously. I'm not debating that the foscam is cheaper and has more features. I'm just saying, you don't have to pay the dropcam fees if you don't want to.

sorry if i seemed harsh on that previous post..nothing against you, i just hate how these companies market this crap and dupe the masses.
i 'get' that is more integrated/easy to setup but does that justify charging 3-4x as much as a foscam with a BILLION more features and then to add insult to injury, if you actually want to USE the damn thing tack on a $9/mo fee.
netflix is cheaper

i would be pissed as hell if i set this thing up and then a month later decided i wanted to have it do some recording while i was out of town or something and realize i couldn't do that without paying even more money to these bozos.

My camera will be here today. Hopefully I don't have issues with setting it up tonight
