Budgeting App

I’m looking for a simple app that my wife and I can use to track a weekly budget. Right now we are using Google Sheets because it can be shared. I simply put in the starting amount for the week, and we each enter our debits as we go. Since it is shared, we can both see what is left until the next period starts.
This is just for our daily living expenses, as I track our recurring bills separately. Everything I have seen on the App Store and Google Play is much too complex and unnecessary. I’m essentially looking for a check register feature similar to the old Microsoft Money program.
Cross-platform sharing is important since she is on Apple and I am Android.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Check out Mint. It has budgeting tools and may be able to connect to your bank. Free but there’s a ton of ads.

Thanks. I looked at it first and its more complex than what I need from what I can tell. Also, I don't want anything that connects to my bank.

Mint will cease to exist in like 36 hours. Please do not switch to Mint.

I rescind my recommendation.

Was not aware of that.

Give Monarch a try. I switched to it from Mint and like it thus far.

I got you:

Goodbudget
Best app for: Simple budgeting
Cost: Free or $8/month (or $70/year)
If you don't need to sync all your accounts in one app, Goodbudget could be an affordable option. This app lets you create different spending categories -- like housing payments, gas, and food -- and sets maximums for each. The app is affordable (it has a free version, too), but since it doesn't monitor your credit card usage or link to your checking account, you'll have to manually input your expenses. That's only a step above doing this in a spreadsheet.

YNAB
You Need a Budget
You don't have to connect to your bank (but you can if you want) You can manually import bank files or just do it totally separately.
$99 a year, works best in a browser but the android and iOS apps are serviceable.

why not? its very secure and will help a ton. once you get it going almost all apps will automatically name and categorize your transactions for you

You know all these things can do is read your balances.

It’s just not a feature I need. I’m not trying to categorize expenses. I don’t need that level of detail. I’m just trying to track the total amount spent during a weekly period.

Thanks. I’ll check this one out. I’m really only looking for a step above a spreadsheet like the description says.

I switched to Monarch after 12+ years with Mint. I’ve been pleased. It isn’t free but reasonable.

I use Rocket Money to keep track of recurring charges and subscriptions

I hate to break it to you, but you're not really budgeting if you're not categorizing.

So, you're just tracking. Use your bank. Get the balance on Sunday and check it on Saturday. The delta is how much you spent.

I recently chatted with an INTUIT staffer who recommended Monarch as a replacement for MINT. Some people recommend Credit Karma, which is wrong. CK offers no budgeting capability...yet.
While INTUIT is abandoning MINT, the MINT personnel have been retained and added to Credit Karma. Financial planning might be added to CK in the next 12m.

Yes, I'm just tracking, not truly budgeting. I'm really just looking for a way to help my wife keep up with what she has spent. Apparently a pen and paper is too complex for her, so now we have a spreadsheet doing simple math for her.
I balance frequently, I really just need her to keep up with what she spends.

Ah. I fear you have problems that none of these tools are going to fix. Best wishes.
