What you want depends on how far you live from transmission towers. You might only need a fairly cheap one or you might need an expensive one.

So you gave him no suggestions but get upvotes lol.

Clear steam 4v is really good. If you are over 25 miles away I recommend an amplifier and perhaps more than one antenna for extra angles and directions to point toward towers

And make sure you buy an antenna capable of VHF and UHF reception. If its only UHF you'll be blind to some channels in your area.

Near a tower is not good, actually.

Think of a transmission tower as emitting its signals from its very high top in a semi-pyramid-like array...if you are directly under it, you miss all the signal.

This is why you typical see very tall signal towers far outside city limits--they shoot the signal down over the city from miles away.

This is also why aiming your antenna for the stations you like best is important. Some towers may be in LaPlace/Reserve and aim into NOLA, while others may be down in lower Plaquemines Parish and also aim into NOLA.

For GREAT reception of both signals (coming from 180° different directions), you would need to rotate the antenna toward the general area of signal dispersion. For the FM die-hards, we use a motorized, rotating antenna with pre-programmed stops.

Sorry to bore you with this...figured someone may learn a thing from this info

This website shows you where the antennas are for all the stations in your area. From that, you can determine what kind of antenna you'll need.

The "best" antenna is Marathon, but it is probably overkill for what you may be wanting. It is also closer to 200 dollars.

If you're going with an outside or attic antenna, I can't recommend the Clearstream 2v enough. It has both a VHF and UHF element with decent gain.

I had decent results with a Mohu Leaf 50, but I couldn't get the VHF station here in Houston with it. I was just a touch over 20 miles away from the main Houston antenna farm.

I don't know where the towers are in BR. A lot of these guys do, so they will be able to share their real world experience. At the end if the day, that is what is king when dealing with OTA TV.

I'm about 20 miles from the towers and have a Clear Stream 2 that's working fine in the attic of a single story house.
