Those are the base requirements to function. The recommended specs are the ones I listed and provide full functionality and no loss in frame rate.
Agree. Unless you install some rescaling software and feed zoom a 720p feed(webcams are all 1080+ now) you can’t do filtering effects in zoom smoothly without a decent iGPU. NPU may work, not sure. Even a 10th generation i5 will have artifacts and look really bad by today’s standards.

iPad or MacBook Air.
I use iPad for all the above and bought my mother one and she loves it too. Very user friendly and easy to set up.

So this can be bought for under $1000 but a lot more than what a Chromebox costs. “ Microsoft - Surface Pro - Copilot+ PC - 13” - Snapdragon X Plus - 16GB Memory - 256GB SSD - Device Only (11th Edition) Latest Model - Platinum”
Is there something in between the two that would meet the OP specs?

The tablet / portability factor is what jacks up the price. I mean, I don't know how important that is to him, but it's the reason why it costs so much for a good device.
If this is just a Zoom appliance with picture capability and web browsing - I'd try to find a renewed i7 based surface pro on Amazon.
Otherwise, a Macbook Air is also fine. A lot of people get along just fine with those as primary PCs. They're pricey, but a renewed one can be found for about the same price as an equivalent Surface Pro.

Wonder if we could get a thread stickied for laptop/pc recs. Might be the most common thread on this board.

First time I posted on the Tech Board. I came here before using my Geek Squad annual contract.
Y’all probably don’t understand the major cravasse that exits between computer knowledge between someone in their 60’s and even 50’s and later and someone like y’all. It comes natural to y’all. And one of the best things your generation can do for the one or two before you is help them/us on this. I know it’s taxing but thank you.

Not meant to be snarky, but a genuine suggestion as it would probably be more helpful to have a bigger and more updated thread to reference. Could have breakdowns based on price and usage.
I personally like HP Envy (not exactly a tablet) for purposes like yours, but most laptop/tablets on the market around should be able to handle what you need. Surface tablets are nice too. Hope you find something that works for you.
