Apple's WWDC Day

I honestly have heard so many YouTuber's and others hype up today that I'm expecting to be let down. I'm one of the few that is truly hoping for macOS or something macOS like to really make the ipad worth the $$.
Hell, even if they just make it so when using a mouse the little circle stops "snapping to" locations AND they just give me a damn "+", "-" and "X" for window management, that'd be a win.
But instead they'll just tie in with ChatGPT/openAI and say they improved siri.
Hoping it's not as dismal as I'm expecting.

Nope. It will not let the iPad compete with the MacBook

Craig Federighi is morphing into Steve Martin.

Haha yea. I’m assuming all the rainbow flag nonsense ties in with June?

So far a giant yawn-burger to me.

ipadOS was beyond disappointing.
iphoneOS was ok - finally getting functionality that android has had for a while
Not sure what I expected but pretty disappointed in ipadOS. I literally have no clue why they put an m4 chip in that thing when it has been overpowered for 3-5years now.

An African samurai in Assassin’s Creed. Now that’s daring.

I giggled when I heard that too. I mean, I guess this event was a "meh" for all OS's and just should've been an announcement that they're doing AI on top of siri.
Meh.
Meh.

OS upgrade announcements are pretty meh all around right now. Nothing super innovative and just incremental upgrading going on.

used to go to these in person in the 90s. fun times; i saw the first quicktime 'alpha' before it was ever released outside of apple (thought it was a huge fail..160x160 video that could barely manage 10fps on a Mac IIfx which was the fastest computer they sold at the time and would set you back a cool $10k) but boy was i ever wrong!
got a free transparent-case newton at one; sold it for $1k on ebay a few years later..man i wish i had hung onto it but 1k was alot of money to me back then!
lots of crazy shite; got to meet 'the residents', peter gabriel and thomas dolby and SF was "fun" weird back in the 90s..not 'broken needles and human shite all over the sidewalks' weird.
after-hours parties were epic and we visited alcatraz and rented bikes downtown and rode over the golden gate bridge and up that hill on the other side.
so much promise and excitement in the tech world back then. now its fricking cynical and political and the tech companies are pumping out shite noboy wants or needs.
wtf happened

I think innovation has hit a plateau to a degree. I mean VR headsets are cool and all but the majority of folks don’t wanna wear that shite or pay that kinda money.
I truly think Apple is missing out by not making ipadOS more macOS-like. Doesn’t have to be a 1 to 1 port but just improving the files app and giving a solid “+”, “-“ and “X” for app navigation would go a long ways. I think they’d sell a ton of iPads and only take a marginal hit to MacBook airs.
Instead, they virtually killed ALL of their m4 iPad Pro sales today. No one, unless you’re just rich AF, is going to buy an m4 iPad Pro now.
Apple shot themselves with shite updates to iPadOS.
It’s hard to be “revolutionary” year after year but I think they invested so much time and stress into getting Siri better, they’ve dropped the ball in other areas.
I’m still also thinking that all big companies like this are still having a hangover effect from COVID-19.

Elon is furious over Apple outsourcing their AI to OpenAI instead of making their own

If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation.

I can’t say I blame him. I’d need to see how they don’t plan to sell us down the river.
Surely they made OpenAI sign their lives away for security.
If not, Apple is no longer the “leader” in security. Which is like being the lesser of specials in the special Olympics. They all sell stuff about us somehow.

so for me the games coming to mac were the most exciting. The fact that I'm most excited about games compared to the other features is pretty telling
edit: Apple Intelligence is cool I guess, I will actually use AI now. I've read it's only available on m1 devices and later, plus iPhone 15 pro and later.

Apple is playing serious catch-up. They weren't just waiting for the market to be right so they could "lead from behind" like usual, they grossly miscalculated and seemed to be actively avoiding this space like the people that thought the Internet would just be a fad.
We should be surprised they have the level of on device intelligence they showed in the staged and pre-recorded demo. I also think giving people a choice of external AI apps for non device questions, which seems to be the plan, is a good option and very un-Apple like. If they did catch up I suspect that choice would go away and people would complain.

how much did they lose trying to build an electric car?
Posted on 6/10/24 at 7:57 pm to CAD703X
So I see that apples AI will only work on the iPhone 15 and 15 pro. I have the 14 pro max so frick upgrading.
That being said, I assume it’s coming to apples HomePods correct? Assuming it comes to the OG HomePod, the new HomePod and the HomePod mini.
If that’s the case, those chips are super old and either they can’t get apples “ai” OR Apple is straight up software locking it to just the newest phone!
