Hey Board, my daughters (12 and 10) are asking for an Apple Pencil for Christmas . But, looking online it seems they have a bunch of cheaper alternatives and I doubt they need the full capabilities of the Apple Pencil.

So, anyone have any recs for Apple alternative pencils for kids that age? They have the newer iPads if that matters.

The cheapest good alternative is the Logitech Crayon. Make sure the iPads are compatible, they use a slightly different protocol. Nearly everything else is just a stylus where results may vary or are app dependent.

Get the apple pencil. I know you don’t want to and they are a little expensive. Believe me, I was in the same boat a few months back. I bought the with the Apple Pencil and I went with the crap alternative. Now we both have apple pencils and wasted that other money.

It really is far superior to the alternatives. It was made specifically for the iPad. Works great.

Looking at their iPads the gen1 works, so the price isn’t that much higher than the other suggestion so will go with the Apple Pencil. Will wait until around Black Friday to see if they go on sale a little.

Thanks for the input.
