JK Scheinberg, the engineer who spent 21 years working at Apple and is most famous for persuading Steve Jobs to move the Mac from PowerPC to Intel in 2005, was rejected from a job at an Apple store.
He had applied to work at a Genius Bar, according to The New York Times.
The Times used it as an example of age discrimination in the workplace.
The Times' Ashton Applewhite wrote:
I’m lucky enough to get my tech support from JK Scheinberg, the engineer at Apple who led the effort that moved the Mac to Intel processors. A little restless after retiring in 2008, at 54, he figured he’d be a great fit for a position at an Apple store Genius Bar, despite being twice as old as anyone else at the group interview. “On the way out, all three of the interviewers singled me out and said, ‘We’ll be in touch,’ ” he said. “I never heard back.”
Apple, notoriously, employs very young staff in its stores. It is unlikely that anyone is more qualified to work at Apple than Scheinberg, who ran the famous "Marklar" Intel project.

All part of Apple's marketing to be the young, hip computer, and it is working.

Same as what Abercrombie always did... Companies can hire who they want to mold their image. Urban Outfitters ain't hiring 50yr old white accountant types... And I absolutely no problem with that.

I used to work as a Genius Admin during college. Worked with plenty of guys that were well over 54 years of age.
Honestly, it might be a case of age discrimination. I think it's more likely that he didn't have the personality they were looking for. Dealing with shithead customers is a lot different than coming into work and sitting in front of a computer all day.

i'd like to see Steve Wozniak go and apply for a job using his real name and see if he could get a job. My wager is that the 20 something hipsters wouldn't have a clue.

Before I left my last job, the last hire I made was this 52 year old guy who could only do overnights. One of the best hires I made, the man was a worker and never complained. I might have stayed if I had 10 more of him.
