Anyone giving Alexa & Sonos a test run today?

Here's what you have to do:
- update your sonos phone app
- update your sonos speakers
- enable 'beta' option in sonos app
- search for 'sonos' skill in alexa (it will be way down the list at the bottom for some reason) and enable it/link accounts. (its like 5 or 6 steps)
Now you can tell alexa to play anything to any of your sonos speakers by voice.

Very nice so far. All I've done is play a few pandora stations to different speakers and have it raise and lower the volume.
- alexa play 'tears for fears on sonos 5'
- alexa play 'amy winehouse radio on sonos 1'
- alexa set the volume to 10 on 'sonos 5' (loudest)
- alexa pause sonos 1
All sonos speakers stop playing when you say 'alexa' so that's a little odd.
The biggest problem so far is even though Sonos supports google play natively, alexa seems to be ignoring all my music there.

still researching how to unlock my personal music library on google music via alexa.

i thought you hated sonos

i itemized my list of things sonos does poorly (cant save groups of speakers, loses all your linked speaker groups if the power goes out, cant control via internet, etc etc) but i also said i was going to wait to decide if i wanted to dump my speakers until the voice control feature was added.
still on the fence on this but you know, you keep something long enough and you start to bend to its idiosyncracies...CAD is WEAK

well damn, how is Google home stuff compared to Amazon. I like Googles look better than the Echos.

that new 'google max' looks really nice. i'm still trying to find out more about it. i think whether or not you can 'stereo pair' it will be a consideration.
sonos has the market covered because they have multiple form factors, a soundbar, sub, connects and bridges.
google just has the big speaker and the home devices

yea i hated sonos due to the price point but seeing googles speaker right there, idk what to think.
i wonder the projection google is wanting to go (different speakers like sonos). And i wonder how the sound quality is compared.

its no coincidence that sonos released a new speaker today with a built-in mic/alexa *and* finally opened the alexa beta to the public so we can use it with our existing sonos speakers.
they can see a truly SMART speaker from a juggernaut like google or amazon could cause serious damage to their market.
sonos isn't getting into the alexa/ok google game anytime soon so they need to circle the wagons quick!

Saw this earlier and cant wait to get home and try it. Thanks for the quick walk through CAD.
Amazon and Google are seriously leaving Apple in the dust on this smart home/talking speaker business.

I'm excited to try this as well. It's a shame that our Echo speaker in our kitchen gets so much more use than our nice set up of Sonos speakers in the next room because of how much easier it is to use. That should all change now.

Sonos Siri integration 2018. Game changer. It just works.

so adding support for all 3 voice platforms (amazon, google and apple) will be the killer app that saves sonos?
i think apple has other plans, tigerwise. cant imagine they'd be willing to leave the hardware up to sonos.
and yes google and amazon are ahead of the curve on this; google's new speaker is a dead-ringer for a sonos:3.

I knew when they updated their API last December and broke all the C4 integration that the writing was on the wall.
