I’m bumping this for lack of another discussion on the matter.
Recently, AT&T started installing some of their micro cell towers for 5G in our neighborhood. Does anyone know if these will help with LTE service? Ours has always been horrible and drops to one bar of 4G, even though we are in the middle of BTR.
Just wondering if I should be excited about these new towers, or if they won’t make much of a difference.

Depends on the units. I have pico unit sitting on a shelf right above me right now that does B2/46/66. While this is not 5G, its LTE LAA which can support speeds over 1Gb/s.
The newer stuff (depending on which vendor) such as our AirScale system is modular in design and allows for significantly more capacity. You can have half the shelf doing LTE and the other half doing 5G.
What it comes down to is how much the carriers want to spend on the new dual and tri band radios to replace older RFM's.
Also there is the walking rumor TMO will turn down WCDMA in the near future.
