Fire stick might be the issue if it’s only Bluetooth. If not there are plenty of IR/IP options available

You can probably still find a Logitech harmony with a hub, but you’ll likely overpay since they’re no longer produced.

Newest alternative would be the Flirc 1s but it has a few drawbacks. It requires non-rechargeable batteries, and it only works with IR (and CEC, which from experience does pretty well with FireTV).

You need line of site. There are some great adapters for distribution for this if you need them

ETA- if you hate CEC so much, they do sell an adapter specifically for the FireTV (their primary product is a USB IR receiver. The universal remote world is new for them)

Logitech harmony

I had a minor panic attack last week when we were having internet issues and my harmony wasn’t responding quickly. I have all my components hidden in cabinets using IR blasters to control them. WTF Logitech?!?

If you don’t mind app-only control, grabbing a used GlobalCaché device off eBay and a control app of your choice is a good option, too.

But I want physical remotes.

Same. My wife and kids won’t learn an app or individual remotes. I’ve spoiled them.

I don’t really know what any is this means.

Does this mean this remote will work for these devices?

It will work with all those devices.

Granted, your current TV remote should probably work on all those devices, too, if you turn HDMI-CEC (control over HDMI) on.

Which model tv is it?

Not sure at the moment. It’s about 10 years old.

Another question: looking through the page for the flirc, it appears I can assign buttons to each device. How does the remote/device know which one I am using?

I’m guessing the arrow buttons will be same for roku and fire tv, and neither device can be turned off, so will I be controlling both at the same time while only watching one?

Those top 3 buttons (A, B, and C) are “activities” buttons. so you can actually map it out as 3 totally different remotes that just happen to be inside the same shell. You could even make it work in different rooms if you were so inclined.

In other words, “A” will assign the arrow buttons to Roku, volume buttons to TV

“b” will assign the arrows to FireTV, volume to tv

“C” only uses the tv

If you were to add a soundbar or receiver, it could handle those things, too!

Seems really cool.

Other drawbacks you know of? Battery issue isn’t really a big deal. I’ve used batteries in any remote I’ve ever had.

Generation 1 product, but it’s from a company who is pretty good at what they do. Early/beta reviews were positive. I think the only other drawback would be that it’s not available til February

So the little usb plug would be used to plug into the fire tv and being able to use Bluetooth that way?

I’ve aso come across SofaBaton devices? Those any good?

This remote does not have bluetooth. This company does essentially zero bluetooth or other RF control
It is an IR (infrared, line of sight, "traditional" remote) receiver that is programmed to work and add IR functionality to a FireTV

I've read mixed reviews. It's the other primary competitor down at that price range, but the app is very poorly reviewed, though once you get it set up, it seems to work OK for most people.

I own neither and own no FLIRC products (except I do have a media center PC with an in-case receiver that may have, at some point, come from one of their production facilities. But I didn't put it in there)
