Any of you fine techie folks involved with the Gulf Cost Mesh? Meshtastic is pretty dead, but MeshCore looks to be spreading like wildfire along the coast from TX to FL.

Thought this was about Mesh networks at your house.
Is this just a mesh network that's state wide? How does this work?

It is a totally off grid digital communications using low cost LoRa low power radios (33cm /910 Mhz band). Dead simple to set up and use.
Pretty slick, using solar/battery powered repeaters to cover vast distances.

I'm ignorant as heck - my neighbor just installed this 40 foot antenna in their backyard - any chance this is what it's for?

Nope.... antennas for 910Mhz would generally be no more than 9-12 inches tall.. at 40' first guess would be for Ham Radio.

Fair enough. I'll see myself out

I've looked into it a few times and seems neat. I just never could quite justify investing the time and monies into it. My thought would be for getting one for my parents, siblings, etc. to be able to communicate after a hurricane or similar communication disrupting event. Plus maybe getting a portable one for the fishing camp to be able to take out on the boat.
I'm curious to hear other's use cases and experiences with setting it up and using it
