There’s a ton of chat about them in the FB groups I’m in, but I haven’t dabbled with it yet.

Ender 3 Pro; BTT E3V3; CR Touch; TFT35 LCD, TH3D Firmware
Where to start. It all began with installing the BTT E3V3 board and TFT Display. I installed the nightly Marlin firmware and when I would auto home the x and y would home correctly but the CR Touch would grind into my bed. Switched to the TH3 Firmware and still have the same issue. I made a few tweaks to the firmware and now the CR Touch drops the pin 3 times and then the TFT display give me an error.
I think all of my wiring looks good except for my red wire which I need to re-terminate but its connected regardless. Thoughts on what I am doing wrong? In the TH3D firmware they do not have an Ender 3 Pro option so I chose the Ender 3.....

Select your board, equipment, etc. and follow the guide to compile Marlin. This is what I did for the same setup minus the LCD.

I did similar to this when I changed my motherboard after installing EZabl. You build your firmware and install it. Eazy enough and I never had problems.

Yo I wrote my own Marlin code for my custom machines. I chased a fricking missing backlash for two weeks during auto leveling once. It's that picky.
What "tweaks did you make" to the firmware? And paste your error code please.

So yesterday I switched back to the stock Creality board and used the nightly Marlin build. This time no errors but the same issue. When I auto home X,Y are fine and then the nozzle does not retract when the CR Touch pin touches the bed resulting in the nozzle grinding into the bed. I ordered a replacement wire from Creality last night as I read that sometimes the wires can cause issues, but other than that I am at a loss. I have a brand new BTT board and display sitting here now waiting for me to figure out the issue before I swap back in. Perhaps I should troubleshoot with them back in instead of fixing and then swapping hardware again.

Thoughts on something in marlin that would cause this?

Your settings in autolevel in firmware. Copy and paste the part of Marlin from the bed leveling. Sounds like you didn't change anything in the firmware. When I changed from a simple limit switch for my nozzle height to an inductor probe there was quite a change that had to take place in firmware. False to true for autolevel and Z offset. There is also a place in config files you need to change. I don't know that particular piece of hardware but your problem is all firmware.

Am I supposed to turn anything else on in that section?

I'm not familiar with the EXACT type of component that CL touch is. But if that's the one they suggest then you only need that one.

But there a lot more options in Marlin for autolevel than just that section. That's just to turn on the feature. You have many more settings to change.

Well I am compiling from scratch now. Want to walk me through it?

Bruh. Why? You were almost there

I went back and swapped the BTT E3V3 board and TFT screen back in. Still the same issue of the nozzle grinding into the bed so I figured maybe start fresh???

I thought you meant you were writing your own code. Do you have any error codes in the script that shows?
I need to see the entire autolevel code.
