Antenna/Installer Recommendation in Baton Rouge Area
Posted on 1/10/16 at 7:01 pm

Looking to get an antenna installed in the attic so I can ditch Cox, but not looking to do the installation myself (what can I say, not as spry as I once was.) That being said, can anyone recommend a good installer in the greater BR area?
Antenna recommendations are welcomed as well. I'm in Prairieville and I have a large open space in the attic above my living room, so could fit a pretty substantial antenna/rotator.

Feel like making one? Cool little project that you can put together in about 30 minutes if you get the stuff.

Making one isn't really as much of an issue as the attic installation and fishing coax through the wall. My attic isn't decked and I frankly don't trust myself to not put a foot through the ceiling.

Are you against having an antenna on the exterior of your home? You will get way better performance.

HOA won't allow a visible exterior antenna, so attic is my best option.

Only right around my two attic entrances are decked. I took a sheet of plywood in there with me and laid it across the joists. Just an old scrap piece I had in the basement, so it wasn't a full 4x8, but enough to stretch over 3 joists and give me a place to stand while I was installing an outlet and installing the antenna. I saw the aftermath of my dad falling through his sister's ceiling, both on the house and on his ribs, and decided that's something I'll never risk.

I am pretty sure it is against federal regulation for a HOA to prohibit use of a tv antenna, or really any antenna used for receiving broadcasts.
This is true. Because of the OTARD rule your HOA cannot stop you from mounting an antenna or satellite dish on your home. My HOA threaten to put a lien on my home unless I moved my satellite dish 8 feet further towards the back of my house.
I make them aware of their ignorance and the OTARD rule and never heard from them again. I even contacted the FCC to clarify the rule and the guy I spoke to was kind enough to send my HOA a letter on my behalf stating that I had the right to keep my satellite dish where it was.
I hate HOA's with a passion.

Yeah. I mean it is your right to make your house and neighborhood look trashy as frick and less desirable to live in.

if you want to let someone else cuck you on your own property, that is fine with me.

I just bought the one from Home Depot and put it in my attic. Works well. Cost about $35 for antenna.

No one is telling me what to do on my property. I just rather not see that redneck shite in a nice neighborhood lowering property values so you can save a few dollars a month.

I bought a cheap HD flat antenna from Amazon and was successfully able to get all local major local channels with the exception of NBC. Tried every possible option to pick up NBC33 from across the river in Plaquemine and no luck whatsoever. Probably going to buy a more high powered/distance receiver very soon. But the local channels I did get were all in HD.

sounds like you want to tell other people what to do on their property. what a bloody tampon you must be if a simple tv antenna set you off.

Any chance you found someone to do this? I want to have an OTA antenna in my attic which I could easily install. The problem is my house (walls & roof) is sheathed with radiant barrier sheathing, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't get any signal b/c of this. I would like to find someone local that can install an exterior antenna that isn't any bigger or less attractive than my satellite dish is now.

How much was the estimate? And who did you get to come out?

Finally got this done today...used Digital Wire LLC, run by Aaron Spears. I don't have a breakout cost for just the antenna install as he also ran new wires for my surround speakers. Overall I felt total cost was reasonable and he did a good job.
