Just because you didn't like the answer doesn't mean it's wrong.

Ok, I forgot to include in the title for you to ignore this thread. I already knew your response would be worthless, condescending and ignorant.

well he is kinda right. If you are logged on to your gmail all of your contacts should be saved there. so you can just log on to your google account and all contacts will be imported.

along with your contacts, you can upload all your musi to google play so you can listen to it anywhere on any device. and you can save it to any phone you want at anytime.

Why? If ever there was a perfect person and perfect use-case for cloud services, it's you and this situation.

It's not that I don't like it. It's non-responsive. It did not tell me how to do anything. It just said, "you don't understand any of this".

If I did, I would not have started a thread asking how.

1. Go LINK

2. Click "download music manager"

3. Select the folder on your computer where you have all your music.

4. In a couple of hours you'll never ever EVER be without your most favorite 50,000 songs because any computer, tablet, phone or smartTV on the planet will be have access to your music.

5. BONUS - if you ever have more music to add, just drop it in the folder or import it via web browser.

Next problem?

Hang on. I just unwrapped the phone. Seller must have driven to the post office the second I paid.

Do I put the sim in first?

sim can go in later; your phone has 2 uses:

(1) fancy wifi device
(2) cellular device

you only the sim for #2 but either way it won't affect setup.

which phone did you get? i missed it in the other thread.

So music, contact(the correct ones) and most pics basically took care of themselves like I suppose you guys said, but I had no way of knowing that would happen. Again, I came from Windows on last phone to my first Android.

Not tried texts yet-is that possible?

I had a custom sound on my old phone for texts. Anyone know offhand how to add that to the choices for text sound? What's better messages or message+?

Moto Z Play. Basically because of the battery, and this one came with the JBL Speaker mod brand new-never opened.

all your pics should be there except you might have some device folders not syncing to photos. go into 'photos' and click the little 'burger' in the upper left corner and select 'device folders' and make sure all the ones you want to keep do NOT have the little cloud with a line through it which means they aren't getting synced to your online google photos.

just click the little cloud icon on each and that will start the sync process.

i'll cut you some slack for that. didn't realize you were relatively new to android.

not really. when google had messages and hangouts integrated awhile back you had more options but that's something i don't typically worry about.

you may want to scan through them & make sure there are no photos or pieces of info in there you don't want to lose.

also, learn to love GOOGLE KEEP. its a great way to keep track of all the crap you need to jot down or reminders and it will also come back on your new phone because its all in the cloud as well.

between photos, music, contacts and cloud, 99% of stuff i don't want to lose is taken care of.

texts as you noted is the one thing that doesn't make the jump.

as for sounds, you can email that to yourself or save it to gdrive and then download it on your new phone if its something you might not be able to find again.

i used something in the past called zedge i think which had shittons of sounds & stuff.

these days i'm a lame old man and use whatever vanilla sounds google deems me worthy of in the OS.

eta if you don't have to sell it, keep your old phone handy in case there's something you forgot. pop the sim out and it works great as a little WiFi PDA for around the house.

I'm going to try and respond without sounding too condescending.

I have a new phone coming on, and this will be my first time doing this. Music has always been the worst for me in the past, and I usually just send every song from old phone to a computer, then from computer to new phone.

What music app do you use regularly? I'd suggest google play music.

quote:

With contacts, the last time I did this, I ended up with a list that included every person I've ever emailed. My only easy fix for that was an app that would only list contacts with a phone number. So, I need help with that. Having the stock app plus the other resulted in multiple notifications.

I'm not sure why you would want less contact but you can always clean your contacts up in gmail on a computer. All changes you make will be pushed to your phone. And if you are receiving duplicate notifications thats a pretty easy fix as well.

Zero idea why you wouldn't want to do it through the cloud.

If your new phone has the same sim as the old phone it will probably ask you during setup if you want to copy over everything from your old phone.

Moving your info from one phone to the next is really the easiest thing ever on Android.

Yeah, I figured that out and I think they may all be there now.

This was about 100 times easier than Windows to Android.

it *should* remember what you had installed on your previous phone and start re-downloading them like crazy.

i kind-of like it when it doesn't happen because i end up with alot of shite apps over time that i dont necessarily want on my new phone right away.

So, even though the sounds were in my music files, i had to drag and drop them from my desktop to the proper folder for them to be available as either ringtone or text sound. Easy enough, but I had to search for the answer.

New issue. This moto is a slightly larger phone, but I can fit fewer apps on each page than my Nexus. Is that just a difference between manufacturers?

Maybe. Try going to to display under settings and see if display size is set to medium. If so you can set it to small and the icons will be smaller so you can fit more.
