Adobe's new 3-year licensing model

Full disclosure - I'm a computer layman and I know I'm wading into the waters of experts. Just wanted to see what y'alls opinion on this was.
I had a copy of Photoshop Elements from like 2012 on my computer that I've been able to legacy download everytime I got a new machine. I only have to use it every now and again and it always did everything I needed it to. Well it looks like I've finally run out of luck as it doesn't seem to play ball with Windows 11.
Figuring I've gotten my $99 worth, I decided I'd upgrade to the new elements only to discover Adobe's new 3-year licensing bullshite. Now I guess after 3 years, you gotta buy it again.
The last perpetual license offered was on the 2024 version. I thought "hey I'll just get that one" but of course every reputable dealer now has it marked as unavailable as I assume the Adobe gestapo made the rounds.
Do I have any recourse? Do any of y'all use other alternatives? I know $100 every 3 years isn't a huge pill to swallow but this whole situation is irritating...

Subscription model software is literally the worst thing ever.

If all you need is some cropping/color correction type of stuff, Gimp will probably be a good alternative, although it does have a bit of a learning curve even for simple things.
The new AI features in PSE shouldn't be dismissed though, at least check out the demo video before deciding LINK I don't edit photos much anymore, but I would have saved so much time if I had some of these AI editing features back in the day.

And Adobe might be the absolute worst ROI. Worse than Microsoft, for sure.

unfortunately most software has moved to annual subscription models and if they still have a permanent one time license it is usually priced so high you might as well make the yearly payments. It absolutely blows but almost everyone is doing it.
I hate Autodesk more than Adobe. They killed the network version which we had 140 people using but only about 50 used it daily and forced us to buy individual seats for every person or tokens that get used every time a person opens a program. They tried to say it was a better option for us. Sure sure sure.... paying you more money is better for me... okay.

Dealing with their licensing shite at an architecture firm in the late 90s sucked. You're begging for people to pirate software. It's worse than the parallel port "locks" even before that.

Might as well out a billboard that says "we are smarter than hackers so don't even try!"
Trust me, you're not.
