Our recent home office addition and covered/screened deck is pretty much complete, except for some finishing work with paint/floors and staining the deck. Got to wait a few weeks on that. In the meantime, I'm going to run ethernet lines to the addition we put in, as well as one to a TV. It is a 12'x14' room with French doors going into it off of the deck. So while we're deciding how to set it up for the computer, I also want to add a WiFi Access Point. The wife would like to be able to take her Zoom calls for work out there in the quiet, but current WiFi coverage isn't strong out there. Currently have a Ubiquiti in the house, but it doesn't do so well reaching through brick exterior walls and through the floors.

Has anyone used any of the in-wall AP's, or an Indoor/Outdoor AP? It might be easier and look better if I just mount an outdoor AP underneath the deck rather than having one in the room, which my wife will likely frown on. The whole thing is covered with a metal roof, so I'm not too concerned about moisture, but would go with an outdoor one just to be safe.

I'm thinking run one conduit through the brick wall underneath, and from there have Cat6 going to where the TV will hang, another to where the computer will be, and the third to the AP. I've got plenty of space on my switch and already have the Ubiquiti AP inside, so that's one reason I was leaning towards using their AP again.

I have a little plug in extender by my balcony so i can take zoom calls outside, and it works great. I think i paid 35 bucks for it.

I have 3 in-wall APs like this that work great to help spread the signal around the house while still leaving open drops to hardwire whatever needs hardwiring.

I have 4 of the inwall AC-IW and they work great indoors but not so much outdoors. You could try adding an AC-LR indoors which helped me but still not as good as putting an AP outside the exterior wall.

None of the in-wall models are outdoor rated so I'd avoid those.

Take a look at the UniFi FlexHD; it's outdoor rated and might get wife approval of just sitting on a desk/shelf.

Believe the LR are only good with long shots of open area...

That's a good call I would think.

Thanks. I’ll take a look at those. Problem is I did such a good job of hiding all the wires on the new tv in the living room that she thinks everything can be that way. Doesn’t want to see a router or AP. Doesn’t like the look of wires from my docking station to my monitors. So I’m trying to hide WiFi out there as best as I can. I may try my current AP in a different spot in the basement and If that works just get another one like it.
