6.5 Speakers With Head Unit Power

I want to add some 6.5 speakers and only have a head unit for power. What are some good basic speaker brands with higher sensitivity that would sound good?

What is this for- car, boat or motorcycle? A stock unit will not give you much power and you will probably need an amp to drive them but some higher-end brands are Beyma, Focal, Hertz & I love JL in one of my bikes. I have the MMats PA601cx installed in another motorcycle and they get loud with excellent sound quality. Some popular mid-tier brands are Infinity, Polk and Rockford Fosgate- RF is very popular but way overpriced and not very good SQ. Keep in mind that with any 6.5 speaker you will not get decent (if any) bass.

Thanks for the reply. It’s for my UTV which has a wetsounds bar in the back but it’s a 4 seater and I need to put a couple of speakers upfront.

Gotcha. How many watts does the stock HU put out and is it 2 or 4 ohms?

It’s a Pioneer MVH-S301BT that says 50w x 4. I cannot find the ohm rating for it.

A Google search of the Owner's Manual says it's 50w x 4 @4 ohm so make sure whatever speakers you get are 4 ohm, which shouldn't be an issue as they are plentiful.

Ok I’m gonna look on Crutchfield and see what they have.

I bought my Kenwood HU at Crutchfield, they have great prices and very good tech support. I think they carry Hertz speakers but not sure of other brands. Amazon carries a ton of 6.5 speakers, including some of the brands I listed above (I bought some Hertz HCX 165's there, they are a workhorse). For the rest (MMats being one), I just went on their website and found their dealer in my area and bought them there.

Morel makes some great bang for your buck speakers. Highly recommend.

Hertz and Polk MMs are my favorite right now.
Got the Polk MM components for my truck and freaking love them. Running them with a 4 channel amp and Kenwood Excelon HU.
Ignored my back speakers and let them run on HU power while I pushed my front components and bridged my sub on the other two channels.
