I'm still just very confused by it. He had Weston McKennie and Sergino Dest tweeting about it. The USMNT account tweeted about it. You'd think it would be ripe for him to scam money, but he specifically made it a point to not set up a gofundme despite hundreds of people saying they would donate.

Looks like it was some elaborate scheme to boost his twitter following, and he got outed because he posted a picture of a dude who once had cancer and that dude caught wind of it.
