It means that he will be stuck with Barca B for at least the next two seasons, and likely won't get many shots with the 1st team at all. Go somewhere else and get 1st team minutes. You can always go back to Barca later if you're good enough.

There are worse places to get playing time than the segunda division. I really wish he had gone to Germany.

I hope he gets loaned out there or the Netherlands.

They would have to get there first. Currently in the 3rd division.

I don't think they can get there.

Isn't the rule for La Liga that reserve teams have to be two divisions apart?

ETA: Just looked it up, it's only one division apart.

article on Nicholas Gioacchini that I translated.
LINK

As soon as he arrived last October on the SM Caen bench, Pascal Dupraz just had to watch Nicholas Gioacchini with the reserves. The Italian-American striker quickly integrated into training with the professionals.

Four months later, the young 19-year-old player who arrived in the summer of 2018 at Caen has become one of the starters at the Stade Malherbe.

"When I make my team," explains Pascal Dupraz, "Nicholas Gioacchini's name is one of the first that I put down because he shows me that he has the level (necessary to play with the first team). And I did well to hang around the training center grounds. It's also my job. I don't get any glory from it. "

Lining up until then in the National 3 league with the reserves, Nicholas Gioacchini has already played thirteen matches in Ligue 2, eleven of which he started at striker prior to coming to the right side of SM Caen's attack.

Manhandled at first in aerial duels, the attacker knew to learn quickly.

"When you play against defenders who do not have the same technical, physical and mental level as those you meet in the reserve team, in National 3, you quickly learn to adapt.

Even if I am not 100% comfortable in this area, over time it will happen. The hardest part is physically and technically."

Pascal Dupraz is not fooled and knows that the young player who signed his first professional contract last December (lasting until 2023) will be in high demand at the next off-season.

"He already has a good level. In my opinion, he's a great young player that we will all be watching at the end of the season. It would surprise me very much if this boy was not in high demand.

So of course we all hope that he will stay, but hey, it's not just me who saw that he has a little talent. We must continue. He is very young. He has a lot to improve but he already has an interesting foundation.

Next year, in Ligue 2, this boy must set himself to scoring at least ten goals. And when he has more than ten goals, it will be high time for the club, with its business model, to sell him. It's like that."

First I've heard of this kid.

Why have none of youth teams given him a look?

Probably because he's busy starting in a European league and that's better for his development anyway.

We've had a handful of guys playing in euro leagues at his age that still would get caps with the USYNT. Just seems like a huge oversight on our part that this dude has yet to even be called into a U17 or U20 camp when we are desperate for guys that can play in front of goal. Not to mention he can represent Italy or Jamaica.

He was born and raised here and I don't think there is any indication he would play for those others. I get your point though. US soccer has probably been in communication with him.

??? Which regular starters for their teams got released for youth team call ups mid season?

I'm not talking about bullshite friendlies, more like youth World Cups. And it appears Gioacchini just made his pro debut last October, so I'm just wondering why we weren't getting an American forward into youth camps when he was obviously excelling in France for Caen's reserve squad.

Hard to know without being on the inside. He may have just flown under the radar. Some do. Based on where he was during this past U20 cycle I don't think he would have beat out any of our other players.

He was going to get called up to some of our teams before COVID shut everything down. He didn't get a senior team cap until this year, so he did go under the radar a little bit since he was in the youth set up of France's 2nd division.

He's also in the same age range as Sargent, Soto, Ferreira, etc., so it's kind of easy to lose caps to some of them.

Also easier to get noticed in the US than in France. We just have so few players over there, and he's been there since 2015.

If you just need something to read, here's a new article by Sciaretta after interviewing Jose Gallegos. Many people consider him to be one of, if not the most, talented teenager playing in USL.

He reminds me of Ledezma. Hopefully he can thrive in USL for a season and then make a jump to Europe.

ETA: ASN has good content but poor proofreading/editing

Gallegos as never been called up to a youth national team at any level and is eligible for both the United States and Mexico – although ASN was able to independently confirm that Gallegos would have been on the roster for the cancelled U.S. U-20 camp in March where the team would have faced Portugal and France
