Traveling to the World Cup is just like traveling to any country with a big event. Keep your shite close, travel in groups, you'll be fine.

The security in all hosting cities is going to be immense. They will clean up any place a sane person will go. Now, some may venture to unsafe places to buy tranny hookers or drugs and then it is their own fault.

What's the point of going if you don't do this?

Rio will be a tourist trap, that's the huge negative.

I'll probably go. Waiting to see about plane tickets and who's hosting what

As an aside (for everyone), keep in mind that you will need a tourist visa to enter Brazil i.e. will have to go to Youston (if in LA) or use a visa service (Thanks, USA).

Reciprocity is a bitch

Though, it's a pretty painless procedure as long as you have your shite together

I got caught in, and sent back from, Sao Paolo airport, because I forgot my Spanish passport (only had the American and I didn't know about the Bush-Lula 'row' over visas at that time, I believe this was in 2006 or 2007).

Had my I.D. and driver's license, but no passaporte. Had to go all the way back home, pick up my passport in Madrid airport, and get on another fricking eleven hour flight. Sucked big time.

The Sao Paolo - Madrid flight was pure hell. I think everybody on that flight thought I was a terrorist or something.
