Do you have to apply for a visa ahead of time? Usually those countries just make Americans buy a visa when you get there before they'll stamp your passport.

Basically they just want to profit from letting you in.

Yes.

@Dandy Lion: I would have seriously considered suicide. I'm going to have nightmares about situations like that.

Are you really going??? That's awesome.

I have another friend from Lsu who goes every time, he probably posts here.

That's the plan. I need to start saving though. My foreign travel is rather limited. Cozumel for like 8 hours, so I may need some tips from a worldly traveler like yourself. I've always wanted to go to Brazil and the World Cup. Would be sweet to do both. I may also need your friend's info.

Have a couple friends studying in Rome who just watched Italia-Croatia with all the Eye-talians, and are actually going to London to watch the England-Sweden game this weekend, hence I am jealous as hell. How's the gig going this summer for you?

Been trading emails with some dude who lives outside of Rio who said his dad is renting out a room at their house for a pretty reasonable price (300 greenbacks/wk).

Let me do you a favor and tell you not to do that, ever, and certainly not when it's your first time abroad

Only dirt roads and hour(s) long travel can come from that
