kris olsson has been playing there for our U21 squad. he turned down a couple of loan moves this month (allegedly) bc he thinks he's close to the first team. he's got a decent frame, but definitely needs to bulk up. i like the technical side of his game quite a bit. that said, he's a couple of seasons off in the most optimistic of forecasts IMO.
zelalem has gotten PT in the Rambo/Wilshere role for the U18s.

Now that the youth stadium building project is finally over, it's hard to tell who is on the fringes of the first team, as our squad is the deepest it's ever been. Before if a player was a fringe first team player, he would have made the bench in a couple of first team matches, but for most of our youngsters of this generation, they haven't really gotten close. It's hard to tell nowadays. Olsson is 19, which is pretty old for a first teamer to make his debut for us, I think.
Rakitic is more of a sure thing, as he's already developed. I'd rather buy than promote, especially with how old Arteta is.

I'm also seeing where we're linked to De Jong on loan from AC Milan... I dont think there is anything to it.. Although, he would be a great stop gap until the summer and bring a needed toughness to our midfield...

M'Vila may be a bust, but LFC have to take a shot with someone at this point. Or the club can kiss top 4 goodbye.

knows he doesn't have to play him this season but city, arsenal, et al do. could be a dumb move long term though.
wouldn't even loan us demba freaking ba.

He obviously doesn't see a Moyes led United as a threat long term. Bc it makes a lot of sense short term, strengthens united for their games against city and arsenal, as well as freeing up enough 45 million for a big time striker acquisition. But you're right, none of that outweighs the risks of halting what seemed to be a glorious man united free fall, unless he just doesn't respect Moyes at all. Or if he thinks he won't be at Chelsea that long

Marcotti had some interesting points on the matter. He mentioned FFP as a factor - UEFA lets everyone know in April how they will enforce that and Chelsea are in serious non-compliance. Therefore this sum a) can be used to cut against that or b) be reinvested into another player.
Mata was going to be a bit player at Chelsea the rest of the year which means he probably would have missed the WC. his value would have decreased quite a bit, not to mention the potential decrease in value from a fire sale by Chelsea due to FFP (depending on how that is handled). they got a premium price which will help them long term (even if it helps United long term too) and it has the potential short term side effect of helping them win the title.

I think y'all just cleared our financial FairPlay deficit. Only bright side to this tragedy.
ETA: didn't read your post before posting, so you pretty much already said this.

Like Mata as a player, I really do. I'm just wondering what this team is going to look like with him, RVP and Rooney.
Unless Rooney is outta here, which would be disappointing.

Lots of goals from your front 3... but no idea how the 3 behind them will work
