I would imagine that's the only way they could get him.

Probably. Just seems a risk.

Fulham continue to be linked with Lucas Barrios. Sky Sports, Kicker (some sort of apparently reputable German magazine/website) are running with it. I'll believe it when I see it.

Supposedly somewhere between 7-9 million but I suspect his wages would be pretty high.

Hey glasser, you'll never guess who Arsenal bought today!

A U19 player from Dortmund no one has ever heard of. Thomas Eisfeld.

Chelsea needs wide help right now.

We really need an addition to the team this season. I was hoping that we could add something on offense this season, but it's not looking that way. It will likely be a very close race for 4th place this season.

via Arse Blog:

Who he? Well quite. He doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page yet, but according to other sources, including the Guardian’s German football specialist Raphael Honistein, he’s a 19-year-old, right-footed, offensive midfielder who has already spent a year out of the game having ruptured his cruciate ligament in late 2009

it's like Arsenal has simply become the place where young players get good (or injured) before going off to win trophies. will Arsene ever invest in the present????

I would have no problem with Wenger's signing policy if we actually held on to our stars past age 23!

Hey S, Leeds is getting Mark Wilson on loan for the rest of the year. 4th choice right back at Celtic who gets injured way too often.

Holy shite what a boring transfer day this is looking to shape up as.

Last year felt like things we're at a fever pitch for two or three days, and this one just feels like nothing.

But Bayer Leverkusen are inquiring about getting Vedran Corluka from Spurs. Boring? You apologize to Corluka right now.

Not surprising. All the EPL teams are pretty well set. No need for new players. None of the top 6 or 7 have any flaws that could be corrected with a player or two.

If I was United I'd be falling over myself to sign Sneijder but that's me

Sorry, just want to make sure that you (and everyone else) realized I was being really sarcastic there.

ManU should have absolutely gone after him.

Arsenal should have gone after a striker, midfielder and fullback.

Liverpool should have gone after a midfielder maybe and definitely a striker.

Chelsea needs wing help and a striker. A defender (besides Cahill) would help too.

Seems almost negligent to me that none of those teams strengthened their squad (besides Chelsea, though I'm not high on Cahill) when 4th place means so much and is open for the taking.

I have a feeling that the top 6 are all looking back at the 85m spent last year on Torres and Carroll and deciding that maybe waiting til the summer isn't such a bad idea after all. Besides, ask most fans of Chelsea, Liverpool, or Arsenal and they'll all tell you they feel like they can still finish 4th right now.

De Bruyne is finally signed to Chelsea, but loaned back to Genk as expected. Sky Sports reporting. Also Jelavic is having a medical at Everton, with a deal likely this afternoon.

ETA-Wayne Bridge on loan to Sunderland complete.

LeToux is headed to the Whitecaps. I figure this, and Mondragon going to Columbia, makes for a bad start to the new season for Philly fans.

Even more good Arsenal news regarding today's transfer deadline:

why why why why

quote:

"Money is not everything in this game. I don’t disagree that it’s important. But we do things based on a value system.

“We’re about creating star players, not about buying them.

“We can’t afford to compete with oil money, and we can’t afford to compete with super-wealthy individuals from Russia.

“But I think the more important thing about our model is that it’s sustainable.”

He talks about how Man City would love to be in three competitions (Carling, Champions, FA Cup) and are out of all three... but, um... THEY ARE IN FIRST PLACE IN THE FRICKIN' PREMIER LEAGUE!
