Why are the British countries separated in soccer but not in other sports?

Not really an answer to your question, but they compete separately in rugby union as well. Ireland, however, actually competes unified.

Because the British invented soccer and pitted themselves against each other. It's the way it's always been.

That England team had to play a combination of Emile Heskey and Paul Scholes at LM making it ridiculously unbalanced, if you have Giggs there you have two world class players on either wings feeding at the time one of the 3 or 4 best goal scorers in the world. (The Giggs addition may also have pushed Sven to play Scholes in his natural position aswell and completely changed the formation to a 4-4-1-1)
The back 4 was the definition of solid then as well with Campbell Ferdinand and Cole. As little Danny mills wasn't terrible

Now the addition of Giggs doesn't stop Seaman getting lobbed of Beckham pussying out if the slide tackle but there's no reason to think a legitimate world class winger doesn't give England chance to score another goal in that game.
Either team would have beaten Turkey and an England Germany one off game in the World Cup final, well that would have just been epic beyond belief


Personally I always believed that the winner if that Qf would win it all


Bale and Ramsey added into the England squad would make it one of the best attacking teams in the tournament and would be epic to watch

We wouldn't have come up against South Korea
