Where would Dempsey have fit in in this formation

Ran a 4-3-3 against Scotland today that looked like this:

Does Dempsey replace Torres on the left wing or is he worked in as an attacking midfield in place of Edu with Jones moving back as a defensive mid?
Great fricking win tonight, and we did it without Dempsey and Altidore.

Deuce on the left, Jones moved to defensive mid in place of Edu, El Gringo in Jones' spot.

Do we want Dempsey to be in the middle though like he is with Fulham? He played the left a lot under Bob and he would disappear in a lot of games.

Jozy replaces boyd, dempsey replaces Edu, Jones, or Torres is all I know for sure..
But he is listed as a "forward" on all of the roster lists.. even though he's a mid (attacking, but still) for fulham..
So Jurgy might have him more forward than not. (torres)

This is hard because Dempsey disappears on the wing sometimes and yet our CMs are so far back in the formation that it makes it harder for Clint to be forward and attacking centrally.
I don't want to put him on the left, and I'm hesitant to put him in the mid. If that was the case, I think we alter our formation a bit to be more 4-2-3-1-ish. If we put him out left I agree with what Bhoy said about moving Paco in and having him replace Jones who then replaces Edu.
ETA: it is possible that Bradley could be the mid to move back into the more defensive role, where he sits in front of the back line like he does for Verona. That said, I love what he offered going forward and the beautiful final third passing.

In the formation we played today I think he has to be on the left wing.
I agree with cwill. With Dempsey in we adjust to a 4-2-3-1, put Dempsey behind the striker and drop a holding midfielder

Nope. He plays on the left and drifts inside. He has basically only played in the middle when Zamora and then Pog were unavailable up top as the Deuce can double as a target man.

Well we were talking about where to put him in the formation. It kind of makes sense to me to put him where he has played week in week out for the last 5 year at fulham. That is where he played under Sanchez (once he finally benched Bouazza in Dempseys first full season in England), hodgson, Hughes and then Jol. Also most goals come from the center, it's kind of hard to score when your standing on the left touchline

Johnson had another very good game at left back. Part of that is because his biggest strength is going forward and we dominated the game and possession. Throughout the game the Backline shifted to 3 and for the most part Johnson's nominal position was on the left wing with gringo tucked inside

This can mean a lot of things, but he rarely plays centrally for Fulham. He moves to the center from the left as most inverted wingers do, which is an important distinction to make. This position allows him to make late runs in the box, which is where a lot of his goals come from. Most of his late runs start from the left. So he can surely come in from the left for the U.S., but I think a large part of why he has the freedom to move centrally is because at Fulham he has an LB who is more than willing to provide width, (Konchesky, Salcido, and Riise all were excellent in this regard). Will he have the same sort of support on the left for the U.S.? Hopefully.

I'd take Torres over Shea on the wing. As of now, with Shea coming off the bench as a super sub.
As far as fitting Holden into the roster. In that formation that NotoriousD was posted. . I think he'd have to be inserted where Jones/Dempsey is at. Jones is getting older. He is 30 years old. I could see Holden as a replacement. Bradley and Holden in the midfield together would be lethal. Before he went out with an injury for Bolton. He was top 4, I THINK, in tackles in the EPL.
Jones and Holden both have 17 Apps and 2 goals. Fun factoid for ya.

Shea isn't a top XI guy for us. Hit a bump in his career of late.
I'd imagine Dempsey would play on the left, and one of the central mids from last night would be sacrificed (Edu?). I feel like last night's XI was the closest to an actual concrete starting XI we've had under Jurgy.
Johnson plays like a Brazilian wingback. Good against lesser teams like Scotland, but his Brazilian-ness could hurt us against Brazil.

He has to reinsert himself into the lineup. Don't assume he will be back starting for us anytime soon.
