Not a huge soccer guy myself, but planning a Bach party and the bachelor would love it.
So when will we have an idea if USMNT is hosting a big match in the states. I've heard rumors of españa, the Dutch or Scotland. How do I find out when and where in enough advance to actually plan something? TIA

All we know right now is that we will be playing a home match against Jamaica on October 11.
All of the other officially scheduled matches (Panama on Oct 15, Scotland in November) are away. There is a possibility that our second friendly in November may be in the US, but nothing official has been announced yet.
After November, there won't be anything going on until January.

Rumors are, before World Cup, in 2014, that USa will play Bosnia in St.Louis.
There is already going to be a friendly with Argentina and Bosnia in st.louis.
St.Louis has a very big Bosnian population.

Yep, the BIH national team has a player from St. Louis in its starting XI.

yeah, he went to Saint Louis U, was one of top scorers in their conference, then left for PSG? Could be wrong about where he signed first.

What would the January match be and where can I find a little more info? If that's set in stone it may be the best bet for us. The wedding is early March

I imagine there will be many games over here leading up to the world cup as teams train.

Not set in stone, by any stretch.
It is almost always played in a temperate place (for January.) Think: LA, Houston, Phoenix, etc.
Opponents are almost always either Scandinavian nations (out for winter break), or other CONCACAF sides. Occasionally, you get a stellar side like Colombia or Venezuela.
For the last 10 years:
2013 - Canada (Houston - also the worst soccer match I've ever seen)
2012 - Venezuela (Phoenix)
2011 - Chile (Los Angeles)
2010 - Honduras (Los Angeles)
2009 - Sweden (Los Angeles)
2008 - Sweden (Los Angeles)
2007 - Denmark (Los Angeles)
2006 - Canada (San Diego)
2005 - N/A
2004 - Denmark (Los Angeles)
2003 - Canada (Fort Lauderdale)
You also won't get a first choice US side.
ETA: The only "official" FIFA friendly date in 2014 is March 5th. This match will probably be in Europe.
There will be a couple pre-WC friendlies here in late May.

Probably not. Teams can train just as readily in Europe as here.
It will also be winter in Brazil, so training in American heat serves few advantages.

Probably not
There will likely be a few.
In 2010, we played:
– Honduras in January (it was mostly B-teamers with the esteemed Jimmy Conrad serving as captain.)
– El Salvador in late February (again with the b-team, Johnny Bornstein was a first choice centerback
– Netherlands in early March (Solely Euro based players that traveled to Amsterdam)
– Czech Republic in May (Used the 30-man preliminary WC roster)
– Turkey four days later (Bradley made the final cuts the day before and this was the World Cup send off game).
– Australia in early June (World Cup tune up in South Africa).
We may not follow that schedule to a "T" in 2014, but I feel like Jurgen will be giving a lot of fringe guys a chance to show him that they deserve to go to Brazil.

didn't we play Poland as well? in Philadelphia, or Chicago, wherever the Turkey game wasn't.
ETA: nevermind, that was after the WC.

Sounds like the date and place won't be set until mid-December for the January game...
We probably need more advanced planning for a group of twelve. I really do appreciate the info guys

I don't doubt that we may have friendlies here. I was disputing the poster that claims many (other) teams will be here to train before the WC, and that doesn't seem likely to me.
I expect that *we'll* follow a very similar schedule as 2010. (January game, Marchish game away, two "send-off" games and probably a tune-up game in Brazil.

would we play one match in europe and one here in the same week?

You could do New York or Philly for one match and then fly to Scotland for the next.
I'd think if there were a match in the US in 6-8 weeks, we'd know by now.
Wait too late, and you get a disaster like that Colombia friendly at PPL Park in Philly. There couldn't have been 5K fans at that debacle.
