Yeah I know... Im just spitballing ways that we can get both Mix and Bradley on the field and in the middle of the field attacking.
Im fine with putting Mix in Bradleys spot and Bradley drops back to Beckerman / Jones spot.
I just would like to see them up front together.

This is never going to happen. The Christmas tree formation has only really been used by Ancelotti's Milan teams nearly a decade ago. And he did it only to accommodate Pirlo, Rui Costa, Seedorf, and Kaka all in the same midfield. It's literally untenable for basically every other team.
Only other one I can think of is Palermo with Cavani, Pastore and Ilicic... maybe it was the year after Cavani left.. but again, that was to accommodate their 3 biggest strengths...

i like this 4-2-3-1 we're running so that fabian/beasley can get forward, which we will need against belgium

Clearly someone didn't watch 2004 Fenerbahce trotting out 5 forwards in Champions League games and losing by 4 goals.
I think the reason why we didn't see Mix is because we didn't need a goal at any point in the first round.
We were content to play 1-0 and 1-1 with Ghana, we were pressing well with our starting line-up when we were down 1-0 to Portugal and then we tied it up and took a lead, and against Germany, we were clearly fine with being down 1-0.
I love Mix. I probably wouldn't have played him more than 15 minutes in the first round though.

I don't think Ilicic and Cavani ever played together. And it was to accommodate Abel Hernandez I think. Regardless, it is a super rare formation that teams rarely played with. We are basically playing a 4-1-4-1 right now with Beckerman between the lines, but if we were to be real adventurous we would go to the 4-2-3-1 with Mix in the hole and Beckerman on the bench. I don't think Jurgen will do that though.

Im not saying we should do it, actually I don't like it for us...
You just got me thinking about the xmas tree...

Also our formation is hilarious at this point. It is basically 3 very tightly spaced CM's and two wide midfielders whose only job is to track runners. This is like Bob Ball without a target striker to move the ball upfield.

Anyone know much about the Belgian mid fielder, Dufour, that got red carded? How important to their team?
Posted on 6/26/14 at 5:55 pm to noladan
i think he's about as important as i am to the US team in the big picture, but i could be wrong

I honestly don't know what foot is Johnson's strongest. He might be our most skilled player at this point.
Posted on 6/26/14 at 5:57 pm to noladan
He only started because Witsel was carrying a yellow.
Posted on 6/26/14 at 5:58 pm to crazy4lsu
he's my favorite player and i love watching him scream down the right side. he's probably our best player (although JJ has been our best player this tournament b/c he's had a much higher usage rate than FJ has been allowed to have)

It is like Edu or someone like that being suspended for us. It won't do much of anything to help us out, unfortunately.

He was a much heralded DLP who broke his foot some years ago, moved to Porto, and now is a back up to Dembele and Witsel, which is obviously why he stamped the Korean player. He's a back up CM, but he's a good player.

yeah, he supposed to be the next big thing out of Belgium about 5 years ago or so... strongly linked to ManU... never really took it to the next level..
