I think both Icardi and Benzema are kind of in national team exile. Benzema probably forever. Icardi until all of Maxi’s friends retire.

Icardi (ARG)

Martial (FRA) Nainggolan (BEL) Callejon (SPA)

Rabinho (BRA) Rabiot (FRA)

Alex Sandro (BRA) LaPorte (FRA) Bartra (SPA) Semedo (POR)

GK Neto (BRA)

SUBS:

DEFENDERS Luiz (BRA) Javi Martinez (SPA) Alonso (SPA) Roberto (SPA)

MIDS Allan (BRA) Wilshire (ENG)

ATT Pastore (ARG) Suso (SPA) Gomez (ARG)

CF Benzema (FRA)

GK Ruffier (FRA) Fahrmann (GER)

I think this team would do pretty well.

Always drama around Argentina. The Icardi mentioned stuff and now Gomez/Biglia.

Laporte going for $75M and then not featuring in the World Cup is wild.

I’d agree if he had ever actually been capped before the tournament.

Coutinho sold for £100 mil and this is his first ever World Cup.

Laporte, barring injury, will feature in 2022 and 2026.

LaPorte is not as young as you think

And? I wouldn’t have expected Laporte to have been on the ‘14 team.

But he became one of the most expensive defenders in the world in the time since... just surprising to me.

Ain’t a knock on him or City, chill. I’m not SCH.

23 is plenty young for a defender. Barring injury he could play at a high level for 8-10 years.

Granted, he has been somewhat injury prone in his career, nothing major, but lots of 2 week to one month knocks.

That’s fair.

You would think he’d almost get into any other side other than France. Kimpembe, Pavard, Varane, Umtiti.....freaking stacked.

Honestly don’t know how he breaks through there unless there is a managerial change. All of em 24 or younger.

So Kimpembe, Havard and Hernandez all got called up to the World Cup team with just a combined 6 caps.

Without knowing any off-field stuff with him (if it exists), I would’ve expected Laporte to have gotten his shot before them.

Yes. Also, Umtiti is coming off a torn hamstring (evidently partial, as I don't understand him being in full rotation after only eight weeks).

Pretty crazy how stacked Spain seems to be with defenders. Guess for years dudes realized they wouldn't make it in the midfield.
