Yeah Benzama is a better choice but he hasn't been in the French plans for years...
but you're right, Icardi had almost 30 goals for Inter

Laporte is caught in no-man's land. French with Spanish descent, and only a year younger than Umtiti and two years younger than Varane. He has a better chance of playing with Spain, I think, as soon as Pique and Ramos retire.

Higuain is super wasteful, yes, but the team is basically Messi's. They haven't played super well but have reached three straight finals. Even then the game to goal ratio of Higuain and Aguero is both at 0.4 while Messi's is at 0.5. Higuain just seems to miss chances in big games.
