What has to happen for us not to advance with a 1-0 Algeria win

We would have 5 points and a +1 GD and 4 total goals scored.

If Slovenia-England tied 2-2, Slovenia is ahead of us with +1 GD but 5 total goals scored.

If Slovenia wins they obviously advance. If they lose they obviously don't.

If Slovenia tied England 1-1 is the real question in terms of beating out Slovenia. Would be a coin flip if my math is correct.

If England ties Algeria 1-1. If they beat Slovenia, we advance, if they lose, we advance. If they tied Slovenia we advance over England since they would only have 3 points.

If England lose to Algeria 1-0. If they beat Slovenia, we advance, they lose, we advance. If they win, we advance.

If England beats Algeria 1-0. If they beat Slovenia, we advance, they lose, we advance. If they tie 1-1, we advance over England based on total goals scored.

If England beats Algeria 2-0. If they beat Slovenia, we advance, they lose, we advance. If they tie 1-1. England advances on GD+2, us and Slovenia have coin flip.

So, correct me if I am wrong, the only way we don't advance by beating Algeria in ANY form, is (if England and Slovenia finish 2-2 with a 1-0 England win over Algeria) or (a coin flip in the event of a England/Slovenia 1-1 tie)

Sorry for long post, but needed to explain my thought process. Am I wrong?

Slovenia is +1 GD now.

US is 0.

If US wins 1-0, they are +1, and assuming Slovenia ties England, they finish +1.

Then it will depend on how many goals Slovenia scores. If they score 1-1, it then gets sticky. If they tie 0-0, they are out and US would be in. If they tie 2-2 in that scenario, they go and US would stay home, but it would depend on how England does against Algeria.

It's easy, root for Algeria to Tie or win today and us to win next week. That's the best case scenario.

What's the tie break if the GD is tied, the head to head is tied? Total goals scored? If that's tied?

I don't know the procedures past points then goal differential.

not challenging really. root for algeria today and a 0-0 draw with england slovenia. a tie today is good today. england doing as bad as possible basically for today.

for england slovenia, we want a tie or an england win depending on what happens here today.

we are gonna advance, im looking at being the top seed.

US to win against Algeria.

England to win against both.

England 7 pts
USA 5 pts
Slovenia 4 pts
Algeria 0 pts

Aaaaaaaaaand we're through.

Goal differential. Then goal scored. Then head to head.

It could be a lottery, depending on the outcome.

We want Algeria to win tonight.

frick. That.

FIFA should step in and say "we fricked you over one, you advance".

We want Algeria, but a tie's OK, too. The last result we'd want is an England victory, because that's the only way we could beat Algeria and theoretically be left out.

It's very unlikely, but not extremely unlikely.

So, we'd rather play against an Algerian side with something to play for, than one that has already been eliminated?

I'm not sure I follow.

It seems that the shortest distance between the two points is we handle our business, England handles theirs and we move on.

There is no fricking way Algeria beats England. Don't even formulate a plan that requires that.

We need to beat Algeria and England needs to beat Slovenia. That's about all that matters IMO.

A tie would be fine too.

Either way a US win would advance us.

I'm not even going to begin to get my hopes up about Algeria taking points today. Its possible I guess but not likely. The most likely situation that we go through is the one Sheep mentioned, England wins out (very possible) and we beat Algeria (also very possible).

im worried we may end up tying out last game..

and somehow the other two teams could possibly tie on purpose??? i don't know where all that would put us..

i'm just rooting for a 0-0 tie today and that's my final answer.
