Ronaldo won the Euros after Portugal finished third in the group with three draws against Hungary, Iceland, and Austria. That's your GOAT?

I still say Messi is better. I don't know why I would hold Argentina's (probable) exit in this group stage against Messi if we didn't hold Portugal's exit in 2014 against Ronaldo. It's nonsense.

Yeah Ronaldo has been way better this tourney. Messi was better last tourney. It's the way it goes.
Regardless I can't underrate Messi's playmaking abilities as well as his goalscoring record. If Messi were to stop scoring goals, he'd still be the best playmaker in the world.
And Messi's performance last WC, while coming off injuries, rejects the notion that he can't carry teams. The difference between 2014 and 2018 is that the 2014 team had more balance and cohesiveness.

What about the last three Champions League seasons?

Ronaldo has been better. What about in league play? Why the hell is La Liga, the best league in the world by a wide margin, somehow not worthy of Ronaldo's efforts.

If City could win Europe or the EPL every year for the next decade it wouldn't even take my a second to make my mind up.

It's not like Messi hasn't had success in Europe. It's been only three years since Barca's last victory in the CL. Regardless, the fact that Europe is dominated by Spanish teams somehow never enters the discussion. I guarantee that if Messi and Ronaldo were in the EPL, league play would enter the discussion. Yet it's ignored here. I'm not saying that what Ronaldo (and frankly, Zidane) have done in Europe isn't impressive; all I'm suggesting is that Messi's change from winger who scores to false 9 (and then back to winger) who scores to being the playmaker for everything Barca does is just as impressive as what Ronaldo has done, transforming himself from a wide midfielder to wide forward to the ultimate center forward. I value what Messi does because he's doing it at such a high level. If he stopped scoring goals, he'd be the best playmaker in the world by a wide margin. Those feats get overshadowed by his teams lackluster performances in Europe recently, but again why aren't Madrid's lackluster performances in league play held against Ronaldo? Why is this particular WC exit held against Messi while Portugal's exit in 2014 not held against Ronaldo?
It's inconsistent and it glosses over, purposefully, the things that Messi does well, mostly because people dislike him for some reason (it seems).

That's not all that true. The top 8 in La Liga are better than the top 8 in England, in general, over the past decade. English teams have been unbelievably terrible since 2014, especially with regards to patterns of play. Thank god Pep came and instilled something coherent, because the league has been trash, and has been far worse than it was during the late noughties.

Well, there was serious doubt that Ronaldo may not even be able to play in 2014 and he nutted up and did so hurt. And the only reason his was knocked out was because his dumbass teammate got a red card in the first match and they got throttled by Germany because of it and were knocked out on GD
I think that's why he gets a pass there.
Messi isn't hurt, his team hasn't screwed him in a match in terms of having him play a man down and Argentina hasn't played any one worth a frick.

I have no problem with Messi. I just think he's vastly overrated, especially in terms of his international performances.

Messi had his longest layoff of his career in November of 2013 and returned in the middle of January, where it was clear he wasn't 100% either, even going into the tournament. Messi was relatively more healthy than Ronaldo, but I don't understand this logic again. It's completely subjective. Messi helped Argentina to 3 straight finals (WC, and 2 Copa America's) and he doesn't get credit for it for some reason. He played well in each of those tournaments.
I don't think you can underrate Messi's ability to be a playmaker. He's unbelievable.

And who has won this competition the last 3 years? And who has scored the most goals in this competition during this time?
Cr7.....GOAT.
