Our women's team is one of, if not THE, best team(s) in the world. There is no reason that we should have a coach who is so obviously unprepared for this level of play. And I'm not normally so quick to jump on the "Fire the coach!" bandwagon (hell, I was on the wagon to give Mason at least 1 more year at Vandy). Speaking of Vandy, Jill Ellis has had about the same effect on our attack as Karl Dorrell did on Vandy's offense. There is no greater insult that I can make by comparison.

Yeah - you're going to have to dip back into the analogy well for us again. Nobody here knows a damned thing about Vanderbilt football.

Same here, but Gulati should start making phone calls.

Sorry, chief. Vandy's offense was about as effective as a team of quadriplegics. Use the transitive property while accounting for compound hyperbole.

Gulati is the reason she's were she is. If he didn't cave to the vets and fired Tom Sermanni a year from the WWC, we wouldn't be in this position. Talent alone will get us out of the group stage and maybe the quarterfinals, but I don't see us winning with her coaching this team.

Thank goodness the SB has such knowledgeable, expert commentators on women"s soccer.

As many of you I am completely underwhelmed by this team.

I didn't see any tactics at all. The plan seemed to be "kick it towards the box anytime you cross midfield and hope someone can run on to it."

Could it be that the world has caught up to us though? Or is it just women's soccer that touch and possession is just bad in the women's game?

I ask as honest questions. Coming off watching the Champions League, I am having a hard time adjusting expectations. I don't expect it to be fast, physical or powerful, but I don't remember it being that poor.

I'm also finding it very difficult to cheer for this team with Hope Solo in goal. U.S. soccer is an embarrassment. If Tim Howard had done what she has done, there is no way he'd be playing.

If Adrian Peterson or Ray Rice did what she did, oh wait....

Yeah, it's kind of unbelievable. We have an embarrassment of riches. It appears to me that Jill isn't quite up to the task. We looked woefully unprepared last night.

I'm concerned. We remind me a lot of a certain college football team I root for. Tons of talent - poorly prepared - play to level of competition - no tactics/questionable game time decisions - rely on talent to eek out victories. Sound familiar???

Thoughts:

a.) why start Morgan Bryan? Seriously. I'm sure she's great and all but you have Tobin Heath and Heather O'Reilley on the bench. They've been to a WC and two Olympics. They are both fantastic players. Heath sparked the whole team Tuesday.

b.) Thank God for Megan Rapino b/c without her we would have no offense at all. Oh yeah: Sweden's D is slow and not that good.

c.) Press and LeRoux are both good players but how about letting them work together for a few games before starting them both. I'd run 4-3-3 instead of a 4-4-2 and put Press, Abby and Morgan at forward.

d.) Bright spot: Our defense looked fantastic. Johnston and Klingenberg especially.

e.) Cheney and Lloyd looked terrible. They used to be so solid.

Starting 11 should be: 4-3-3

Morgan Abby Press
Pino Box (because Lloyd and Cheney have forgotten how to play soccer) Heath
Klingenberg Rampone Johnston Kreiger
Solo

Gotten in a fight with his brother?

Seriously, people are blowing that shite way out of proportion. She got drunk and got in a fight with her sister (and maybe nephew) and cussed at a cop.

Big fricking deal.

The domestic violence tag is ridiculous in this instance. It's only domestic violence because it happened in a house and not a bar.

Leroux over Press all day in this formation. Few can hang with her speed, and Press could be a super sub at any position up front. You've gotta start Syd.

This is a forum on a domain for LSU football and that has a high number of SEC fans. It's not that ridiculous to assume half or more of the board would understand. To the rest of you, too bad.

True. But we watch real football, not Vanderbilt football.

O'Reilly has lost a step and Tobin Heath's defense makes Clint Dempsey look like Mascherano.

You are higher than giraffe pussy.

- Morgan is hurt (I think worse than they are letting on)
- Leroux (and Rodriguez) are the fastest players on the team - one of them needs to play off of Abby
- No way you could run that three (wo)man midfield. Rapinoe always drifts out wide, Boxx is waaaaaaay too old to handle the center on her own and Heath doesn't play both ways
- Rampone has grandchildren older than some of the other players on the team

My biggest problem last night wasn't roster selection, it was tactics. They spent the first 60 minutes blindly firing crosses.... into Leroux and Press (and Lloyd.)

As soon as Abby came on, they tried to play through balls.

If they keep playing like this, they won't make it out of the semis.

Yeah I find it ironic that the strategy against Australia was punt and run, with Wambach on, and then when we try lots of crosses into the box against Sweden Wambach isn't on the field.

Australia outplayed us completely in the first half, but we dominated them in the second half. Agree though about us not looking very good, but having seen this team leading up to the WWC, I'm not that surprised.
