For those of you with youth soccer players, any thoughts on the "new" player development initiatives?

Good stuff! I am constantly trying to educate parents on my U10 team that results don't matter. Individual skill should be the focus. It's a constant battle. I'm going to send this out to the parents. Thanks!

This is why The United States sucks now. Losing is apparently okay.

Nah. I agree with 6pack. As a former licenced youth coach with an independent club, I can admit that early on I was too focused on results. I also believe that some of the "bigger" clubs operate as though they are under pressure to "Win" (Using Player Pass for 2nd/3rd division matches when headcount wasn't an issue).

More focus for U11/U12 and lower players should be on developing touch, ball awareness and ball skills. Was intrigued to hear none other than the late Johan Cruyff express some of these very sentiments.

His point went right over your head, which isn't surprising at all.

Yup. Glad you're not in charge of player development.
