I think he'd play a lot soon. He'd replace David Pizarro or Simone Perrotta in the lineup if the deal went through and both are already pretty hobbled by knee problems.
Roma actually would be good fit for him to excel in the pressing 4-3-3 with some talented younger players around him like Bojan, Lamela, Caprari, Viviani, Kjaer, Angel and probably more to come.

This is a long shot IMO. There's a pretty massive rebuilding effort going on and I'm not sure that all the new signings will have time to meld. My only fear is that Luis Enrique may not be up to the task but we'll see. However, I do think Roma will be a consistent CL fixture again before long.
