Ivanovic has had a stellar career at Chelsea despite being played out of position nearly his entire career. He gets more of a pass from me but yes his time as a fullback should definitely be over.

Costa wants out. Looking to return to Athletico.

I'd be fine with that just give us Griezmann in return. We'll throw in Matic or Oscar or both to boot.

Matic on the field is a disaster anywhere.

Pull on the reins there.

He had a down year but don't forget how study he was his first year back. I'd much rather him in the holding mid role than Fab.

Fab brings nothing defensively. He needs to be in an attacking role centrally (ideally). Not sure where that may be with a Conte squad.

Mikel might actually thrive under Conte. He doesn't have much versatility but he's good at what he does. There's a reason he's lasted manager after manager. Wouldn't be surprised if him, Matic and Kante all see lots of minutes

You were hating on Ivan 2 years ago and the Ivan of two years ago was 10x better than Matic last year.

If Kante and Matic or Mikel are our two holding mids we won't have near enough quality on the field.

The whole purpose of buying Kante, imo, is to have someone willing to work so hard Cesc won't be asked to do nearly as much defending and can focus on what he does best.

im down to keep ivanovic. hes a terrible RB at this point but has lots of value as a CB since we have no depth there. hes a fine cover at RB too, but we're screwed if hes still first choice out there.

if mikel sees lots of mins we're screwed again. he has no hidden talent to unlock. hes just a body out there that you hope gets in the way of the other team and passes ball to someone else as soon as he gets possession. i thought he played pretty poorly when Guus gave him his run.

So what is Conte going to roll with? 4 at the back? 3?

Not sure if everyone's aware of this but today's game will be shown on ESPN3 so you won't have to go the illegal stream route.

Read some articles on how impressed Conte is with RLC so it sounds like the kid is putting in work during practice. Hope it shows today, I'd like to see he and Chalobah play together for a bit but that's a pipe dream I'm sure.

Chelsea starting lineup (4-4-2/4-2-4):
Asmir Begovic | Ola Aina, Papy Djilobodji, John Terry (c), Branislav Ivanovic | Victor Moses, Oscar, Nemanja Matic, Willian | Diego Costa, Bertrand Traore

Papy starts again? Branislav at RB again?

le sigh.

At least Aina and Traore get starts.

The best part of the game was the announcer having no clue who #23 was and calling him a different name every few minutes.

I hope RLC shines under Conte. I truly believe he could be a world class midfielder and we just don't recognize it yet. Kid is so young but has all of the tools to be a box to box midfielder. RLC paired with Kante could be an amazing duo.

Completely agree. I prefer him deeper with the ability to make runs forward as long as he is paired with a defensively minded CM. RLC is a really good athlete and is long and rangy so defense is super natural for him. Offensively, I think he will only get better.

He gets loaned out or plays with the reserves.
