Question:

Where did he come from? I mean I'm aware of him after the season he had at West Ham and I know a bit of his story and all. But how is it that he's only just now started to be this kind of player? His level of talent looks pretty rare to me. The guy does things with the ball that only a couple other dudes in the world are capable of.

Are West Ham expected to sell this summer? I guess his age hurts him but I would pay a massive amount of money if he could give me 2 or 3 years of his current level. He's a game changer at the highest levels. He needs to be in the Champions League.

I read his Wikipedia page today and it was pretty enlightening. Crazy to think that he's from a French overseas territory off the coast of Madagascar, Réunion. He basically tore it up in Ligue Un for the past 4 years and then moved on to West Ham.

Always been an inconsistent player. He was made into what he is by Bielsa. He was bought by Lille to replace Hazard (or maybe Gervinho, I can't remember) but he was another talented French player who couldn't reach the ceiling of his talent because of random stuff until he went to Marseille and blossomed (among other Marseille players) under Bielsa's guidance.

What do you think Bielsa did to make him into the player he is?

He's a player that most have been aware of for quite some time... At least from his St. Etienne days.. Linked to numerous clubs outside of France year in and year out, but was never followed through for whatever reason... Like someone said earlier, probably due to inconsistency...

I don't know enough of Bielsa's training tactics to answer that, but I know Payet was far better than I thought he would be.

I have no clie, just that he played far better under Bielsa than other managers.
