All three played at left back. They all may work out swimmingly in the end but Shaw is very young and the other two aren't particularly proven elite guys or even ones that had many other top teams burning down bridges to get to them.
That's why people are probably questioning the vastly different expenditures / experience level on the defensive side of the market compared with Di Maria and Falcao in attack.

He isn't a DM.. he will defend, but at Zaragoza and Bilbao he was a CM, that usually played in a more advanced role.. I have to assume they didn't spend £28mm on him to play as a DM..

That's what I thought.
You would have to think Van Gaal is going to use a 4-3-3 and the 3-5-2 is simply a "stop gap" he's fiddling with since it worked well for the Dutch at the WC.
I'm not convinced that Blind is really going to be anything close to your Xabi Alonso or De Rossi in a 4-3-3 and thought Herrera, like you say, would be very good but as the more advanced MF in a 4-3-3.
Which, speaking of Alonso and to change the subject completely back to question of the thread, I'd put James Rodríguez' name out there.
Maybe not the "panic" buy but perhaps the most "caught up in the frenzy of a few WC matches" buy.
I can't really see that Ancelotti really would want James more than simply doing whatever to keep Di Maria and Xabi Alonso.
I guess you have to Galactico though.

Herrera is B2B, but in a 3-5-2 or any other formation with a double pivot and a CAM, I guess you could list him as a DM positionally. That's what I meant.

He really was impressive.
I recorded the Locker Room but haven't watched it yet as my girlfriend loves it and she's bartending til late tonight. One of my favorite shows especially when both Bodo and Vieri are on the panel with Ray. There's usually at least a half dozen moments of fantastic unintentional humor I have to rewind each show.
Wish they would talk a little bit more non Real/Barca each show though.

Huge Mexican Fanbase and Real Madrid knows that. Chicarito is terrible but mexican fans love him so they might as well make some jersey sales.

I think you are right....and that is what pisses me off about selling DiMaria to United. I thought there was a sliver of hope that somehow Ancelloti could work some magic to keep him and keep him happy enough to get to into the UCL and 2nd half of La Liga which is when I thought we would see DiMaria more....alas was not to be.

What worries me here is I think that regardless of what Ancelloti says I think he is looking for an option better than Benzema. I hope he doesn't see Chicharito as that guy ultimately.
