It’s not, and we’ve already taken a step to shoring up those issues by adding VVD, but a world class keeper can negate defensive errors. I’ll point again to De Gea and Man U. They have been opened up defensively countless times over the last two seasons and gotten clean sheets or given up only 1 goal because DDG is so good. If those shots go in people can’t blame De Gea because the back line was at fault. He just doesn’t let them go in.
I don’t think Oblak or anyone else is as good as De Gea, but the guy is an absolute stud and a major upgrade over the guys on the roster. Simply put, I think adding Oblak makes our best 11 a better team than adding anyone else sans Messi. We are good to great at every position on the pitch but GK when we have our best 11 out there. Migs and Karius are not top 4 level keepers.
So if the question is- what reasonable target makes Liverpool the best team they can possibly be, the answer isn’t Lemar or Malcolm or even a pipe dream like Griezmann. It’s Jan Oblak. It’s time we realize the importance of that position to winning trophies
This is a side that’s challenging for the title

I'm not discounting how good he is, but I think getting another midfielder would be very important for cleaning up defensive issues. I'd just hate to see us spend a ton of money on Oblak and we still are allowing some of these BS goals because our midfield is still lackluster, or because we give away the ball in dangerous areas giving up an easy counter.
I mean, Mignolet was always a good shot stopper and Karius was looking very, very good at Mainz before coming to Liverpool. I'm not saying Oblak would get here and suddenly turn to shite, but I also hate for us to invest THAT amount of money and expect everything to magically be better.
Looking at our previous keeper's failures, I think it's also worth a look at our GK coach. I mean, he's stuck around now through 3 different coaches I believe, yet since he's been here he's also seen the downfall of Reina, Mignolet's regression, and Karius not even looking like the same player we bought, albeit with minimal game time.
I guess I'm more just playing devil's advocate than anything. But we've thrown money at this problem before, granted not at a world class keeper, and it hasn't gotten better. Was our scouting that off or is there something else that's leading to failures? That's my only concern

I agree with both points of view, but if you can get Oblak and the owners are willing to spend the money... you do it.. No downside IMO

So who wears the armband here? VVD? I would like to say Bobby, but even though he's an extremely talented and funny goof, he strikes me as being a bit introverted when it comes to field leadership.

I think Andy Robertson has captain written all over him.

A lot of our guys seem to be like that. I'd like to see Ox wear it if he can maintain his current form on the pitch. He has done an impeccable job of standing up for his teammates and not allowing them to be taken to the cleaners by reporters, and he is pulling more than his weight on the pitch lately.
With that said, I think for now it may need to be Salah or Matip until either VVD or Ox are tenured enough to have earned that position in the eyes of the squad. Granted, there is no real timetable for that to happen, and could be longer or shorter depending on personality type and performance.

Zaba, who would you like to see signed to stabilize the midfield in terms of cheap goals? You all know where I stand, with Keita coming in I think our attacking mid answer is already here with Ox. I would like to see a rough and tumble DM standing in front of our back four that can attack when called upon.

Bingo.
Its Achterberg. Its always been Achterburg.

Work computer blocked the pic B.B., but in that case I think Salah/VVD.

Outside of him, guys like Fabinho from Monaco and I’ve always liked Camacho now at Wolfsburg. Diawara at Napoli is a name I think I’ve seen thrown out too. He’s another high energy Guinean. Klopp just doesn’t seem that interested in playing with a traditional defensive midfielder though.
Jorginho from Napoli is interesting though. He’s more of a regista than anything, but he seems almost like what Klopp wants Hendo to be

I think resigning Can would be the best move for us and save us money in the market..
Carvalho
Fabinho
Diawara
Torreira
Ndidi
Danilo Pereira
Kondogbia
Rabiot
Bazoer
If you're looking for more of a DLP..
Weigl
Neves

I was always surprised when Klopp kept him, given his track record with our GKs... admittedly, I know shite about coaching that position and what he teaches...
It's also interesting to see the GKs that have kicked on after they left, given I thought they were utter crap when they left here..
Brad Jones (still not a world beater, but improved)
Peter Gulasci (just voted best keeper in 1st hald of BuLi)

Yeah, wonder if it's time to move on to a new GK coach honestly...
Also sounds like VVD will likely make his league debut Monday, but Salah might be out (illness)

Well, absolutely no help from the little guys today, re: Chelsea, Arsenal, ManU.

Burnley hitting the post right after the goal had me for a minute. For a massive club with tons of scratch watching United is like watching paint dry.

I didn't watch any games today (needed sleep)... Also I hate Monday games

Long as we have Dijks out, Monday should be okay.
Really would have been nice to have the Manc shits get a draw.
Agree on Can, he is the future at the DM role that can attack when necessary. A true WC player at that role takes a long time to hit their prime and can play there well into their 30s.
Counting him out as not capable, not good enough this early is short sighted IMO. He has all the tools

So'ton at least did us an indulgence and held Tottenham to a draw at least.

If its close to being the same lineup as against Man City (just subbing VVD for Lovren), my guess is that Klopp puts the armband on Emre today.
