Thoughts on cup competitions

So how do you guys feel? Like them, hate them, indifferent? I honestly like them. I like that it includes clubs of all sizes. It's also neat to see some of the smaller clubs go on unexpected runs.

I'm not the biggest fan, but I see the good in it.

Yeah the League Cup for the big clubs hardly ever has the top guys playing unless it's the final. I do like that it opens up a door to play in Europe. I know that UEFA has considered inviting cup champions to the Champions League but I hope they don't.

I absolutely LOVE the FA Cup. The League Cup too to a lesser extent. Any competition that pits incredibly motivated small sides against the established ones is a ton of fun. I got a kick out of watching Rochdale and Leeds yesterday (sorry S).

It's a bit like March Madness. Rochdale has a chance to go out there and be a Florida Gulf Coast.

Exactly. Great analogy. Its so much fun to watch, especially in the earlier rounds when you're virtually guaranteed that the big clubs start 4 or 5 squad players.

That would be pretty awesome. It would be neat if they could just play the final rounds in June but that wouldn't likely work during a World Cup or Euro year.

Hell even the DC United run in the Open Cup was amazing. It sorta makes sense why they won since they had nothing to really play for while Chicago and RSL were playing for playoff sports.

it's messed up that in the early rounds of recent FA Cups, we've gotten United/City, United/Liverpool, and now Arsenal/Tottenham

I know the matchups are picked at random but the good part about having some big matchups in the early rounds is it brings more attention. If it was Arsenal and Coventry City last week not many people would care.
