Yeah, but that whole "missing the ball entirely" thing was probably what did him in.
I understand why he did it. Lenhart took a pretty big swipe at Kennedy immediately before it. Doesn't make it any less of a red.... but I get it.

Damnit, I just want one US cap for Steven Lenhart. Maybe he can go down to Panama, try to fight a Panamian, score a goal, get sent off, and then frick over the Mexicans when Panama draws level late.

He made complete contact with the ball before it got to the goalie. Boca was being a bitch and if I was Lenhart i'd have been laughing my arse off at the butthurt.

And followed through and hit the guy, which is almost always a foul, and moreso when it's a goalkeeper. And with Lenhart, you have to assume that his intention was to hit Kennedy, and he happened to graze the ball.
I assume it was Lenhart being a fricking douchebag, and Carlos reacting to the referee's indication that anything goes.
That's not the right way to handle it, but I get the "Oh, we can follow through on tackles now? Sweet... Here goes!" reaction.
Lenhart always pushes the edges of what's allowed. The ref allowed and encouraged dangerous challenges, and Carlos bit... hook, line and sinker.
Nobody is "right" in that situation.

Nah, I would say purposely trying to injure someone is worse than pandering to the ref.
