I read that it was barca u-11 vs arsenal u-11 but I also heard it was just american clubs with those names. Doesn't matter because these kids are incredible.

Fascinating blog on youth soccer development, something I like to keep tabs on for the USMNT

They're good, but do you all think 10 year olds should be playing on a full size field?

this was posted on here a while back. i believe all of those kids are american (probably mexican, but who cares as long as they are with uncle sam). they are damn good.

eta: i think this team actually beat the barca team of the same age.

Kids get tired and tired players reinforce poor technique. Quite a few countries in the world don't allow their kids to play on full size fields until they are in their teens. I believe England just enacted a similar rule for youth clubs.

Also the theory is that playing on a full size field promotes the kick and run philosophy, which helps kids who are bigger and faster at that age, not necessarily the kids who have better technique.

Basically catalyzed Eddie Johnson's career.

This is exactly how it was when I was 10.

I think the best idea for youth soccer is playing 7 a side and things like that where the kids can get more touches and the field isn't as big.

Yeah we played on a full field from roughly 10 up. I remember playing on a smaller field before that, but I couldn't tell you how big it was. Luckily for me I ended up on the team with the fast kid 3 years in a row. He would outrun everyone with the ball and the coach (his dad) would make him pass it to one of us. I'm not sure how many goals that resulted in, but I'm sure the number was significantly less than if he had just kept it and shot it. If he didn't have to do that I bet we would have won every game by 6 goals. Not to sound racist, but he was the only black kid in the league. He also probably shouldn't have been playing rec soccer in the first place but whatever.

USSF suggest 8v8 or 9v9 games at the U10 level .... thus full size fields should not be used.
