He's 6'4 and that height would actually be a detriment to him on the soccer field unless he was a GK or CB

6'5 with shoes. Soccer players still wear shoes, right?
You guys have blinders on. Yeah...our best athletes are playing soccer. Tremendous analysis. Ridiculously stupid to even argue this point.

I mean, if you can 100 percent guarantee Wade would be better at dribbling, shooting, passing, etc. (in soccer) just because he played it as much as Altidore. But that's a tremendous leap to make.
Soccer is filled with athletic freaks all over the world that haven't amounted to much because they didn't have the technical ability...despite practicing and playing just as much as those who have that ability.
And, as someone mentioned above, Wade's height would be particularly troublesome in developing that skill as a striker...that skill you would know without a doubt he would develop better than Altidore.

ok...our best athletes are playing soccer. My mistake.
Michael Bradley is one of America's best athletes.
(i literally just spit coffee on my keyboard writing that.)

Do you see that small guy in the middle here? He's about five five and is better than just about every player our country has produced. And it's not because of his athletic ability.
But yeah you're right, Dwayne Wade has a better vertical so I'm sure he would be the better soccer player if only he had committed himself to the sport like little Santi here.

Never said that. Don't really believe that. Are you giving up that easily, man?

I said better striker, dufus. Pay attention. That's like comparing a PG and a C in basketball.
I guess the NBA would be more exciting if it was made up of the Beckerman's of the world.
Seriously, you guys can't be this stupid.

Giving up? I've won. It's very simple. Our best athletes are self-selecting out of soccer before they are 10 years old. Period.
No one can really debate that. Not sure what you are arguing over.

I'm beginning to question if you can even read.

That elite athleticism = elite soccer ability every single time.

You're not "beginning to question"...you either question or you don't.

At what point does a man sitting by himself pointing at the world and yelling "idiot" realize that it is he, in fact, who is the idiot?

You'll target that, but don't even know how to make a proper noun plural? Alrighty.

You are the person sitting by himself in your little soccer board...the rest of the country is with me.

Nah, I'm here.
And you're here.
And everyone else who has replied to you in this thread.

Do you really (I mean really) think US soccer wouldn't be better with better athletes in the system? I mean...really?
Posted on 12/15/14 at 4:03 pm to Ex-Popcorn
This is like arguing with my wife about football playcalling.
I'll leave you with this...if the US is getting the correct athletes, why is it pushing SO HARD to pull young kids from other sports? It knows the problem...just wish you guys could open your eyes.

It doesn't matter. We don't have the coaches to make elite soccer players out of elite athletes.

Uhhh, what? Are you suggesting that developing technical skill is random? Jesus. Technical skill in soccer is developed the same way it is in EVERY sport. The better the athlete, the better the skill developed.
How did you even come to believe this? You think people get better technique just because they have better athleticism? There are so many more things that factor into that. And athleticism differs from sport to sport in many ways. But obviously I'm wasting my breath on you.
