I think the reason why small towns don't have more involvement is b/c of the lack of colleges that offer mens soccer. If you grow up in any small town around here, and your dream is to play sports for your favorite team, LSU, then why waste your time perfecting your soccer skills? I live in a small town, and we do have a soccer program. But after U10 we have to beg kids to play to field a team.

For most boys from the Deep South, soccer is a "filler" sport until they're old enough to play football. Most people with ambitions to play soccer beyond high school would not give it up just because LSU does not have a men's soccer program; they already have their sights set on the ACC or PAC-12 or whatever conferences have good soccer programs. The fact of the matter is that the US, and the Deep South in particular, are really not soccer cultures. The "Big 2" are football and baseball, therefore most kids want to play those two sports.

frick you.

and by the way, I posted this on the MSB and it was moved here so I guess you can thank whatever Admin made that decision.

If you actually read the thread, you'll find quite a few who agree with me. This isn't a troll thread, my friend.

But let me guess...you actually care now what anonymous message boarders think when they could give two shits about you, bro. You're embarrassed that I'm a Mizzou fan especially in threads on the MSB and Soccer Board where you've been basically sucking off the board.

Pathetic.

Just like any other issue/topic/current event, most of America doesn't give a shite what small town people think.

Soccer doesn't need small town America. This is an urban country.

I've been coaching soccer from u16 on down for the past 8 years and I've had parents specifically tell me they stopped signing their kid up b/c there was nowhere for them to go after high school(within reason) and they wanted to concentrate on other sports. These 8,9,10 yr old kids don't know what the ACC nor PAC-12 is. This is in a small town area which this thread was started about. I can just about guarantee you that if LSU had men's soccer, it would be much more popular in the surrounding area and more kids would stick with it.

Perhaps small town soccer is regional. I can tell you with 100 percent accuracy that most small towns in Missouri (as defined in OP) only play the Big 3 sports.

Are there perhaps exceptions? Probably. Have I ever seen a small Missouri town embrace soccer? Never.
