Especially those who lose the high school coaching quality lottery, and whose development stagnates during high school season. Let's not pretend that high school athletic associations didn't help create this either. I remember players missing weeks of high school season every year because their club team elected to attend a single, late tournament where they easily could have started playing for their high school team earlier.
It's not like there aren't plenty of non-DA options available.

The best HS team in the states would get destroyed at this level.
