Good rebuttal there to all those negatives, rolling your eyes.
Also have you already forgot that knee to the arse in the barca game? That was pretty classy on the field

quote:Puyol has the vertical of a large NBA negroid. Anyway, this thread is about greatest CBs (I don't think it, is it?).
aerial ability,
It's about his less than stellar stewardship of the captain's band, and his drop in form (absolutely normal, given his age and number of years in top flight).

So is Zidane trashy for one head butt?

Terry gets a red card in life for being a d-bag. Don't forget to add that one to the total.

Beleive it or not, there are stages in between trashy and pure class.

How many does Rio Ferdinand have?

Are we talking about Puyol or Terry here?

Puyol or Terry
they're both well in to the autumn of their respective careers.

Ah, the pronoun's had me confused.
Terry's been a fine English CB, but to act as if he would have slotted into other top teams is pretty homerish. There have been other CB's who won plenty of trophies who've had just as good or better careers than Terry. As a pure CB, I think Ferdinand is better, on the ball, in the tackle, and in terms of positioning.

Sami Hyypia. 1 red card in his career. Went 87 straight matches without a booking of any kind during one point in his career at Liverpool.

Indeed, though they are still playing at a high level.

Puyol>Terry. In pretty much every facet of the game,
Yea it's tough being a defender on a team that doesn't have to defend.

except maybe aerial ability, which is overrated to begin with.

Nesta has been a better defender for his whole career than Terry, but he doesn't get his knob slobbered on this forum for some reason.
Nesta is awesome who ever disputed that? Also, you are kidding right? Terry gets his knob slobbed on this board? Wow, that's a new level of delusion.

Yea let's define his career by his worst on field moment. Good logic there. I guess Puyol is a slow shitty defender because that one time Robben got in behind him and he pulled him back from behind in the World Cup final.
Also, I'd much rather a player on my team give a cheeky knee to the arse than flop around like a bitch trying to get another professional sent off or buy a penalty.

You know that Puyol played most of his career before Pep came along right?
Aerial ability is overrated for the most part. It's the ability to win the second ball that often determines possession.

By Chelsea fans, yes. You act like no player has ever played with as much heart as Terry, which somehow overshadows the deficiencies in his game.

They are the two best English center backs of this generation so that's not really an insult to Terry. However, Rio is broken down now and struggles even when he actually gets onto the pitch Terry is holding up much better late in his career.

Probably.

Maybe.

No way.

Ferdinand also doesn't have the bad habit of falling down.
Excellent centerback in his prime, but can be easily beaten with pace and/or on the ball craft. The Wondolowski goal he gave up this week was fairly large indictment against his ability to keep up with intelligent players.
He's also a douche.
