What kind of transfer fee do you think he will garner? €15m or has he possibly moved into the 20's? I'm never good at predicting these type of things

If he has only a year left on his contract I would suspect Chievo would let him go for somewhere in the range of 4-5 million Euros.

i fully admit that when he was playing early for the USNT i thought it was due to nepotism and i would be overly critical of every mistake by baby bradley. but now, i love that dude. he's a legit world class, B2B midfielder

If he was European I think he would go for 10m.

But he's American.

So yeah, 6 mil? 8 mil? It's hard to tell. Jozy went for 10 mil and Ream recently went for 4 mil. Chievo paid 3 mil for MP90 him last summer.

The fact that he is young and is actually really good obviously works in his favor. That said, he isn't a young super talent (ie Hazard) so he isn't going to get near the 20m range.

I don't think his nationality has anything to do with it. He's in the last year of his contract, does not play for a particularly visible club, and doesn't have a set specialty . i.e. isn't a DLP, destroyer, creator. If there is genuine interest in him, and there is a bidding war, then who knows how high he will go.

Hazard will go for upwards of 25 mil because he's contracted until 2015, and there are a lot of very rich clubs willing to pay a lot of money for him.

Yeah, I forgot to mention the short contract. But honestly, and with all due respect, I think it's a bit naive to assume that his nationality has nothing to do with it. Simply put, Americans don't get get the same respect from Europeans. That's my perception, at least. It is starting to change, and players like MB and Dempsey are helping that. You are more than welcome to disagree, but if you have two players who are equal in all facets except for their nationality, I'm convinced that the European goes for a higher fee than the American.

ETA: Crazy, what do you estimate Bradley to go for? And you're right, coming from a smaller club the fee will be lower, but then again Jozy fetched ten million coming from the MLS.

I disagree. An American player coming out of MLS who is unproven I will agree is generally undervalued. I think Michael Bradley isn't subject to any American bias because he has tons of experience in top leagues all over Europe and is still under 25.

Players from MLS might not get a fair price but for good reason. Dempsey and Bradley will command some fair prices if they move.

Altidore commanded a decent fee because he had some good tools coming out of MLS.

The pricing isn't relegated to Americans coming out of MLS

Altidore was 17 and had a full season scoring regularly with JPA. He was also a regular starter for the full national team I said generally because there are exceptions. Most players from mls are viewed as unproven in Europe and as risks, it's as simple as that.

It might have something to do with it, in a larger sense, but the price of players is hard to determine. It depends on two factors, what the selling club values the player at, and what the bidding club is willing to play. For that reason, you have teams willing to play exorbitant sums for players who selling clubs want to keep. For example, Shinji Kagawa will go for a reasonable price this summer because he wants to leave Dortmund, so they will take whatever they can get. What I mean to say is the price isn't an objective value of the player, and shouldn't be taken as such, though it often is.

Anywhere from what was originally paid for him to around 7 million euros.

What you're forgetting is that Jozy was only 7 million euros for Villareal, which is a modest expenditure for most CL level clubs. American players should have been a better value for most Euro clubs, considering the relative strength of the euro to the dollar at one point in time.

The exchange rates for a long time favored European clubs, which surprisingly wasn't taken advantage of as much as it should have been.

That's a good point, but I'm not sure that MLS didn't have anything to do with it

I would expect Bradley to go for 4-6 million Euro.

In Serie A, like some other European leagues, him being American objectively affects his value simply because a club may only sign a limited number of non-EU players.

Probably there are some questions marks surrounding MLS talent consistently translating to larger European leagues but the "lack of respect" for American players probably comes more from fans than intelligent sporting directors.

I'd be really surprised if Bradley doesn't move on this summer but, in interest of his development, I may prefer to see him re-up for an extra year or 2 at Chievo. He could benefit from another season of being their midfield leader and then move on next summer with them still making a profit.

I absolutely agree.

True, but I really hope Chievo can get more for him than what they originally paid. I think they deserve it. He has undoubtedly become a better player from being there.

Stability with one team is way underrated. Just look at Dempsey and how well staying with one team and working his way up has benefited him.

If I get to talk to Bradley before the game tonight I'll be sure to ask him what he thinks about moving. I'll be honest though, if I was him I'm not sure I would want to leave. Verona might just be the prettiest place I've ever been, and he has what is undoubtedly a great club situation.

ETA: I am planning on waiting near the player's entrance with my US jersey on to get his attention. Jozy just walked past me though, but then again he was entering the visiting team's stadium and no one on AZ was stopping for anything.
