There were some risky but brilliant passes on our side of the pitch that took pressure off, retained possession, and moved the ball forward

We need to get Pulisic the ball. He barely had any touches in the first half, at least for most of it.

We have to get out of this Berhalter mentality. He even said the same shite in an interview about the game last night. "HAVE TO GET CP THE BALL!"

We absolutely dominated that game, taking what they gave us and shifting our strategy based on that. Berhalter was useless because he would refuse to adapt to what was on the field vs "give pulisic the ball and force him to cross, make shite happen over and over again".

They were focusing very hard on the flanks with Dest and CP. Our best play came through the middle and middle channels due to that space being available.

The game plan was spot on last night and we probably could have scored 3-4 goals if Flo hadn't gone off.

Freese worries me but that wide right shot he looked extremely flat footed on came off very weird and had crazy spin/bounce. Had that gone in, just would have been a hell of a goal from my perspective.

If we can maintain possession and composure with the passing out of the back like we did last night, it should provide a lot of relief for Freese and the back line. Not sure I've ever seen a US game where we were so good with that vs just blasting clearances and parking the bus all over again.

our defense made them look impotent all night

Our midfield absolutely dominated them.

We have never seen a performance like that from US jerseys IMO. It was pretty incredible.

Adams, Mckennie, and Tillman were so so good last night doing all the little stuff.

Robinson was a little iffy last night, hopefully that can be his sloppy game as opposed to Monday.

Still buzzing from yesterday.

Stinks we got Flo for this WC and he’s out. If we lose to Belgium it will be years of what could have been running through the mind.

Anything I missed that you all would like to add?

Nice summary.

Have been critical of our back line "falling asleep". By design or not, playing aggressively "keeps them awake".

Best defensive effort so far, it was almost old -Germanesque the way they took BH off the ball.

Pepi is excellent for the high press. He has moments of brilliance. I don’t think his strength is in front of the goal in a system like this, however. He is physical, but not fast. Classic hold up player,

Going to disagree big time here. His hold up play this tournament has been horrific. He is being bullied physically out there and I have zero confidence starting him against Belgium

yup. He's looked like a baby giraffe with cement in his shoes but he's almost a lock to start at this point.

Admittedly, I am not up with a lot of this since my son finished his travel soccer days. Back then, we watched soccer all the time, so this might be a new thought. But I was surprised at how fast our guys are and the precision passes they make at almost any speed. Aggressive attacks at the goal. Haven't seen the stats but I bet we were 3 to 1 on shots on goal.
But, if they don't do something the flops and find some refs that can't miss a call like the Red we got, I probably won't watch much after US is out or win the whole thing.
They ought to hit the field with anyone that flops, hit them with a stretcher, drag their arse to the sideline and put them in a box for at 5 minute penalty. I realize there are some real collisions but those can be better assessed on the sideline. Would reduce stoppage to some degree as well.

If trainers go on the field the player has to sit out for 60 seconds.

They are trying to reduce the bs.

- Our defensive shape and positioning has been rapidly improving. This has CLEARLY been a focus point for Poch and the staff. Even in the tune-up friendlies before the Cup started, I was seeing a ton of misplays across the back line and midfield. It was especially obvious when we were absorbing pressure.

All of the games leading up were basically fake news on evaluating this squad. We never played our best 11 all together until Paraguay.

Here's my overall takeaway up to this point: Balogun, Tillman, and Freeman stepping up in massive ways as not only reliable starters but major performances has solidified the USMNT. We have historically had a core of ~6 players (CP, WM, Ream, Jedi, Tyler, maybe Dest albeit he's had lots of injuries...now add Richards) but we couldn't field a solid 10 outfield players....we always had holes somewhere on the pitch.

With this team, our best 11 can legitimately compete with any country in the world. We have creativity, flair, fluidity, possession, and rock solid defenders. Flo, Tillman, and Freeman all blossomed at the right time and we no longer have these notable weak spots to compensate.

Now, our depth still sucks other than a couple additional attacking midfielders...so that will expose us at some point (but very few national teams are truly deep across the team).

Relying only on our depth when they play at the same time is the true weakness. But they are perfectly capable of filling a role when supported by the starters.

Turkey game is not a good example to base the strength of our depth on because that's not the situation any of them would be put in, or be expected to be put in for the rest of the tournament
